08 vs 09, need help deciding
Hey everyone,
i just got an email from a dealership stating "a deal on any instock 2008 that you can't pass up" but as you may know, I have an ordered 2009. so it comes down to: "base 2009 (as in totally base, cuz this is my weekend/play car, so i didnt want any options), with color combo i wanted (jet black and fox red)" vs "loaded 2008 (prem, tech, 19s, ipod, satellite, heated seats, metallic paint) but not the color I want (jerez and black), and 2.9% financing" the resulting difference comes out to be only $3000 more for the 2008. I already have the cash set aside to buy it off at once, but if I can leave it in the bank at 4.5% while taking a 2.9% financing is cool too. so, opinions and comments needed, and thanks for reading Michael |

well, my main concern is cost. so i went with a base, no option, convertible as my weekend car. so no navi on my 2009
with that said, I want to hear you guys' opinion on if it makes sense to spend $3k more to buy options i could live without. |

I would go for the base '09 because you want a pure weekend car and it's cheaper and newer to boot and is the color combo you want. Good things come to those who wait. Mine was built this week. Base plus leather, cf trim, edc and 19s.

Just have your dealer find something in west coast inventory that has fewer options (they are around) and then dealer trade it for you. You will have to pay transpo fees but those range between $250-750 depending on distance. There are a number of M3's out there that are considered a Level 5 (meaning that the dealership will just give it to another dealership without anything in return, most of them being more "bare" cars on the lot or +90 Days) My CA was totally willing to do a trade and still give me my $500 over invoice. He just wanted the unit sale.
Hell, ditch the 19's, cold pkg, and prem sound and there is your $3K and then some. There are a ton of Jerez in LA area. I would keep the Tech though... Better yet, come up to my guy in Van Nuys and have a nice drive back to Irvine... Last edited by spectrumphoto; 09-07-2008 at 02:30 AM.. Reason: Pimpin out my CA... |

well, another thing that i kinda of feel bad about
in case some kind of dealership trade happens and i get the deal for a 2008 e93 closer to my expectation, i feel bad that my previous dealership will be stuck with a no-options jet black + fox red convertible that might be hard to sell... any ideas? |

You could also try to find a stripped down '08 E93. I know they exist because I've seen one on eBay. Like you said in your last post, such a car might be hard to move without a buyer. Thus, if there are any stripped '08s out there, they might still be available on the lot waiting for someone to snatch them up. If you could pick up a stripped '08 E93 at invoice and with 2.9% financing, man, you'd basically be stealing the car...

Well... I'd have to imagine if your ordered '09 is not in production yet, then your dealership could load it back up on options and just take the car as general sale unit. Or if they can't do that, then that base car would be a great Ad Teaser car to get people on the lot (you know the ones in the newspaper that have a cheap monthly payment listed)

Don't do it Mikey. I feel it would be wrong, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I am in the same quandry - '08 v. '09, posed similar question in Rocky Montain regional post. Got good feedback - basically iDrive 2nd generation and changes to the headrest?
Also, got e-mail here in Denver from dealer. 2.9% was only for Sedan and Convert, not Coupe. |

Will @ Long Beach BMW has your 2008 M3's from fully striped to fully loaded.

Plus the M3 e90/e93 financing at 2.9% is insane. Also check Crevier BMW (40 M3's) and Southbay BMW (20 M3's). Crevier might have a few DCT M3's and I think Southbay has a Black DCT Convertible on the roof (not in the lot). You got a 2008 M3 below invoice in LA....WoW. Cheers, |
