Oil filter housing noise

I have an oil filter noise that is exactly as these two you tube videos.

The quieter of the videos is mine. But is louder on cold starts

Someone said it’s the idler / tensioners of some sort. But if that was the case it wouldn’t be more quiet once the car gets warmer.

If I had to guess it sounds like the oil pump.. Only other thought I have is maybe it’s the oil filter housing gasket? Not sure if it’s leaking, or if it’s ever been done. I didn’t think ofhg would make a noise thought if leaking. But maybe m cars are different.

Does anyone else have this noise?

Should I get the stethoscope to check this?

What is to the left of the oil filter housing? It has a pulley on it. Is that the ac condenser , or the power steering maybe making noise?

I’m pretty sure it’s the oil filter. I put my ear up to it, and can clearly hear it. And the noise is consistent with the vibrations.

Maybe oil pump is just old and louder at cold starts with the thick oil? 174k miles.

Hey bmwpower, did you ever figure out what this was? I am having the exact same noise, I thought it was the power steering pump but upon checking with a stethoscope, it is most definitely the oil filter housing.

Check your power steering fluid level. They will produce a noise like this or a whine when low. Don’t go bonkers or you will have a mess within 3-4 turns.

To me it sounds like a power steering pump for sure, or maybe bad pulley... take off belts and inspect (after you check your steering fluid level for sure)
