help!! ENGINE sound soft....
i just switched to a new filter (Active Autowerke BMW) and it was sounding great n noticed a tad difference in performance. After a week of driving i didnt drive it for 2 days and now for 2 days straight it seems like the my high revving v8 is like really quiet even when i go into paddle shift mode the down shifts sound quieter ... anyone have any ideas why my engine and revs sound so soft now?
I was thinking switch out to my old filter but i think there is something else going on??? couldnt find any threads about my issues, if there is pleas point me in the right direction. |

The induction noise comes out of the open hood vent. If you just changed the air filter back to stock, that has to have something to do with why its quieter. The stock filter absorbs a lot more sound than say an k and n cone filter. the plastic housing also reduces the volume as compared to a metal one if you went from one to the other.

It must have something to do with the filter selected.

maybe i will also do another oil change ... any other thoughts before taking it to the mechanic and coughing up serious money? my car is at 63k miles almost... would a bad spark plug show up in my dash? |

Did you have the rear seat folded down for the first couple days and then folded up after? Honestly, it sounds like you just got used to the sound otherwise. If everything was installed correctly and the engine is running well then there probably isn't an issue that would all of the sudden make your engine sound quieter.
I wouldn't advise taking it to a mechanic with this story. You will probably get taken for a ride. |

I've had this problem also but cleaning out the filter or replacing it makes a difference I know that for sure.
As long as your car is not throwing codes and revving happy to 8K, I wouldn't worry too much.

I'm facing the exact same situation. Installed an AFE Intake and I think the intake leak is the issue. Regardless of how much I try, the intake just won't sit right and I can see leaks couple of places. I'm going to return this. |

Same here bro. I too daily my M3 and work on it too, and it's hard not to notice anything different good or bad. Was expecting a lot from the intake, and it's a let down for me.
