A little background first.

I typically do my own work. In this case, I did all the supercharger installs. I do not often track my cars; I typically build for daily driving and street enjoyment. This compares my recent experience of going from an ESS VT2-625 kit to a Harrop. In both cases, Mike Benvo and BPM sport supplied the tunes. In the case of the Harrop Kit, I purchased the full kit through BPM Sport.

I also have an E36 Downing Atlanta (Eaton) Supercharged 318is which was featured years back on Eurotuner. I knew I liked the whine of positive displacement systems.👍

So on to my story...

I had a 2009 M3 which I installed an ESS VT2-625 kit. The car had about 65k miles. I then sold the car and purchased a 2010 M3 with 12.5K miles and installed a Harrop Kit.

Yes, the Harrop was slightly more expensive but I have to say the benefit in overall driving experience is worth every penny. The car has a much lower power band with more 'driveable' power in lower RPM ranges below 5-6K. The build quality of the Harrop kit is a thing of beauty; truly OEM quality. I am a mechanical engineer, so I really appreciate the attention to detail on the kit and the effort they invested to integrate the kit in OEM form keeping the airbox in place.

The whine makes the car sound plain mean and it turns heads everywhere. It is not overpowering at lower RPM, but get the car above 5K and it sounds like a jet😜.

Special thanks to Mike Benvo at BPM sport for all the great support and an awesome out of the box tuning package!

Beautiful car! How does the fluid canister to the left of the supercharger mount? Does it use existing brackets?

Where did you get that upholstery work done to your recaros?

Is that the same tan leather as oem? Would love to learn about the process as I hate been thinking about doing this on my car (Black recaro sportsters on tan interior in my MR m3.

New kit looks great, although I’m sure I’d be very happy with either one. Those Recaros are amazing, give the car a very special look and feel.

How is the throttle input compared to the ESS. It is less smooth? Do you have an issues when letting off the throttle?
