The critics were right and these particular BMWs didn't age well
We were told we'll come around to like those designs.
Why BMW has such a hard time listening to their hard core fans, Purists? |

Everything now is overdesigned, oversized grills, too many crease lines... keep it simple like in the old days.

It's all subjective for the most part. And it is amazing what some minor tweaks can do.

Is that a 7 series in the second pic? Looks like a huge turd, terrible.
I think the Bangle 5's that were universally hated look great these days. |

The BMW e30, e38 and e39 was the height of BMW styling and design.
I think time will tell... but already the prices of these cars is going up every day. Dack

Are you are kidding? The 328, 507, and E9 were the best!

And it’s getting worse. I can already see us in 2030 looking back to today and cringing at the mega-grill styling of today.
I’m seeing all the pics from the first X7 deliveries and genuinely feel sorry. But at least the buyers seem genuinely thrilled with their purchases so my opinion doesn’t matter. |

BTW, how do BMW 'purists' see the design of something like the F10/F11? Not the size, but the form. Personally having lived with a BMW E39 and the F11, I see the F11 being more the natural progression from an E39, than having the E60/E61 in between the generations. |

Must say I do like the stance and form of the F10/F11, not so sure about the G30/G31. I suppose it is growing on me and may be my next model, but when we see an E39... the latest design language does appear too fussy and dis-jointed.

E65 7’s are fugly, though a LCI Alpina is somewhat decent looking.
As far as the grill debate: |

The E90 has aged tremendously well.
And the LCI E65 is one of the most handsome executive sedans ever built. The two generations of 7ers since have been unable to match its impact on the segment. |
