Coolant reservoir cap?

Quick question on removal of the coolant reservoir cap.

When I start to loosen the cap I can feel it getting loose.
As I continue to loosen, it starts to bind and I didn't want to force it further before checking what the secret sauce is for this.

I also thought there may be an index slot where it would just release as I turned it, but no go either...

No secret sauce, what has happened is you have some excess coolant caked on the threads of the cap thus making it stiff.
If its pressure that's built up in the system and you are worried, the bottom right corner has a plastic screw you can turn to vent the system.

Its not pressure, I already opened the vent.

if i'm thinking about the same thing you're thinking about, it has very direct threads that "stop." they aren't infinite threads... i don't know if that is the correct way to describe them. it unscrews to a certain point, and then you lift the cap straight up.

You’ll strip the bleeder screw way before the threads for the cap.

It takes some muscle. Doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy about the cap making it to its 30th bday or anything, but mine's an '08 and hasn't stripped yet

I agree, I plan to replace the OE plastic with aluminum ones.
But that still leaves the plastic threads.

The brass ones are fine, once you dont overtighten, the threads will be OK.
