Large wing guys. How are you reinforcing trunk?

About to throw the wing on. Been trying to figure out the best ways to brace/reinforce the trunk.

What are you guys doing to help with the stress on the trunk?

I?ve seen trunks crush down pretty good running the quarters/jams.

I?ve also seen trunks pull up and make hills on the trunk lid.

All of this depends on angle. What any suggestions?

I?m thinking of a large thick piece of aluminum underside to distribute the weight a bit more.

Don?t know what else to do.

Some wings come with a top plate which really helps.

On my Z4MC I also used a sheet of 1/4" Lexan plus fender washers on the underside.

Great idea on the lexan!!! Will look into that today.

How thick did you go? And did you just cover the area of the plate? Or did you get a larger surface area under the trunk ?

On the Z4MC space was tight as it mounts to the rear hatch.
I just fit the largest piece in there that would fit.

I'll be going down this road with an M3 track build this winter, so would be interested in what you end up doing with yours.

If you guys want these wings to be most effective, you're going to want to build the necessary frame work in the trunk the transfer the energy from the wing into the body of the car.

I agree, on an all out track build.
Same applies to a front splitter.

On a dual purpose car, one has to live with some compromises

If you can. Do you mind posting up a photo of the setup in the Z?

Totally agree. I would even go chassis mount. But that would be insane for the weekends I decide to drive it on the streets.

This is more of trying to distribute the weight so I don?t deform/warp my trunk.

Sorry, but the inner support is buried inside the hatch, so pics were not really possible.

Here's how it ended up going down

Bought two of these bars from good ole Home Depot

Cut them down welded them side by side to make them squares. Then cut and shaped them to how they can fit under the trunks bracing.

I used a brush to finish them off before painting them.

Im doing a full blown race car build so the trunk is just dead space for me. You don’t have a lot of room left in it!

I meant. Do you keep your trunk lid on?? How does it close? The ones I've seen are always lidless.

I get you. I’ve got a single skin carbon trunk lid with 2 slits cut in where the uprights go. The trunk lid is then held on with aero catches to keep it secure and in place. This is how it looked before the slots were cut

Dude that's so awesome. So the trunk isn't hinged. It's held in with the latch and the aero latches?

Yea that’s right. So the wing uprights come up and out of the trunk lid near the rear screen so you have to slide the trunk lid on and attach it with the aerocatches to secure. I don’t have a pic of mine, but I do have a pic of the team Yost car to give you an idea
