E92 2jz swap ??

I?ve been sitting on my e92 chassis for some months now . No local engines for sale , exchange rate is killer and adding duty on top is out of the question.

A good friend suggested dropping a 2jz with tranny.

What are everyone?s thought ?

I?m aware we lose the amazing exhaust.

Also completely make it unsaleable in the future .

This is one of Two m3 I currently own . I was thinking a fun track build. I can get a motor and tranny for 11k canadian that will out perform the s65 in every way .

Let?s not get this confused .... I love my supercharged s65 in every way. I prefer to find a used low km s65 at a reasonable price .
Just tired of waiting and thought ..... wouldn?t this be a cool setup?? Also capable of 700wrhp and tons of torque .

A local shop I know mated a DCT trans to a 2jz that went into a domestic car I believe. Running a syvecs to control the dct. So it's definitely doable.

If the shell isn't of much value to you and the money is burning a hole in your pocket, go for it. Aside form the motor, your biggest cost will be a tuning solution and if you want everything inside the car to work properly.

I?ve seen the swap on other bmw platforms , I know I?ll need a stand alone mangement system, unlucky that the chassis is a 6mt .

What I don?t want to get into is sub frame customizing ... wonder if there?s a motor mount adaptation option avail . ?

In general, when I've seen people put random motors or 2jz's in other platforms, the custom mounts involve a bracket off the existing mount location to the motor. So I guess you'd line up the 2jz to the subframe and have someone fab brackets off the subframe to the 2jz.

Alternatively, you can start with a 1M subframe since that's an inline 6 motor and uses M3 suspension. I believe it lines up with the m3 frame. The guy that did the s65 in a 1 series used the m3 subframe and it lined up just fine in the 1 series. So maybe even a basic 1 series subframe might work too?

All in all, I'm pretty sure it would cost you more than finding an s65 motor. It might even cost you less to buy an s65 motor in parts and rebuild it. I've got all the parts except a block to build a motor. Find a block for around $2k and the rest of the parts off me cheaply and have a local builder build the motor.

Even though the character of the E92 is in the motor, I still believe this chassis is one of the most athletic and beautiful that BMW has made to date, so why not keep enjoying it with another motor! ...a legendary motor at that. Besides, isn't BMW already teamed up with Toyota for a future roadster?

Did you follow up with the number I gave you? Chris has two S65 right now. I'll have a new rebuilt one in a couple of weeks...

After you consider parts, fab hours, and tuning costs, a 2JZ will cost more than putting the S65 back in. And you'll absolutely kill any resale value of the car. That swap will have a very small demographic who would think that was a good idea.

Interesting yes but I feel like passers-by who don't get to look under the hood, would just hear the 2JZ 6 cylinder and think its another 'poseur' 335 with M3 body.

The M3 is known for it's V8 and the sound that goes along with it.

2JZ in Z4 Coupe (non-M)

Have a look at this thread and it will give you some idea how big a job this is.
In ^this case it made sense because it was replacing an M52 and the guy had the in house skills to DIY.

For the E92 M3 it makes no sense to me at all...... S65 all the way.

it is in my top three favorite motors of all time but i'd 1) sell the car and do the 2jz on another car 2) find another s65.

This was just an idea , one local shop has a low comp build s65 that will need a blower @11-14 psi .

Trying to sell an m3 with a low comp motor and blower will be thought, prolly just as tough as a 2jz swap.

I also found a new m3 motor with turbo for 12k but apparently still not an easy fit .

Everyone is right an s65 would be the best option . But the 2jz would be a killer build .

There is no way you are going to be able to install a 2JZ into the E9x for cheap. Harnesses and transmission adapters are not cheap, even for the E46M3 platform. You going to need to hack-up your engine bay and do custom mounts too. At the end of the day, its not going to be practical and you don't know the outcome. Cough up the money for the S65 locally and be done with it.

Trust me, a low comp S65 motor with a blower is a lot easier to sell than a Frankenstein 2JZ M3. At least the low comp S65 motor is still within the same BMW family. Wouldn't your blower fit right on it?

for similar money and an easier build, you could supercharge an s65 with a syvecs computer and make great power.

I hope you do the swap but it's a major task.

I'd seriously look into an S85 swap if you're looking to mix things up. Otherwise, hit up Doogee's offer. Doubt you're going to find better than that, locally.

If you wanna do a swap that has huge power potential, parts are CHEAP and abundant the you should consider an LS based swap.

Tuning solutions are elementary simple. It's already been done a dozen times with success (drift teams mostly).
