Heading up to the Smokeys on Sunday Nov 19th to run the Tail of the Dragon etc... This is the correct info as of 11/19/17.

Meeting place is at 8AM and leaving at 9AM
Deals Gap Motorcycle club.

17548 Tapoco Road, Robbinsville, NC, 28771.

http://www.dealsgap.com/about-us

Leaving the meeting point we will first run north to the top of the Tail where there is a bridge and a parking lot that we will be turning around in and then heading back south, running the full length of the Tail. We will then turn left heading north on 19 Mountain Waters Scenic Byway, turn Left onto 28 Indian lakes scenic byway and then turn left onto 143 Sweet Water Rd which will lead us to the HUB in Robbinsville for 12:30 lunch. We have reservations.

This is a Yahoo and Google map of the morning ride from start to lunch.

http://bit.ly/2kYitke

https://goo.gl/maps/Wh8vDfjd9v62

12:30 Lunch the Hub.
http://thehubofwnc.com

There will not be an official "run" after lunch. I updated the thread on page 10. We will be hanging out at the Hub after lunch checking out the cars etc... People can however do mini runs, run the tail again etc... or as mentioned hang out at the Hub. Some may decide to head home right after lunch.

This is the list of members and what they are driving. I'll correct the cars if I'm wrong gals/guys. Post here on the thread if you would like to be added. And yes, all manufacturers makes and models are welcomed, there is no limit to how many vehicles we can handle.

Going that late into November is a bit of a gamble. The weather can turn really fast or the road might be covered in wet leaves.

I would agree that the roads around Deal's Gap are equally as good, if not better. The dragon itself is patrolled heavily and can get congested. That being said, weekends are typically the worst with mid-week being the best.

Thanks Dparm, unfortunately will be up there for thanksgiving. If we end up being alone then we will take your advice and go on Monday. But if I can get a few cars together I'm thinking a weekend day would be best.

I rode up there over Thanksgiving once when I still had my Duc... It was gorgeous but I could only ride at 50% because of the leaves on the road.

Edit: In a car, you'll love it. Will be a great memory for the fam. A fantastic reason to own an E93

When I went in late Feb. of this year, on a Saturday, the road was perfect and we only saw about 3 cars the entire time. Enjoy the beauty with your family!

Absolutely take the E93. That's a no brainer IMO. With the top down you get so much more sound from the V8 than you do with the coupe. It's not like you're going to a racetrack and will need the slight performance edge of the coupe. The open air and the V8 sound echoing from the hills will beat the snot out of the coupe experience.

Tempting, that's my bday weekend and I've been looking for something fun to do. Tail of the Dragon is not too far from me... If you get a group of people together I would likely be down

It's your neck of the woods. Help make it happen. And this is a good sign to already have one person interested. It's still a long way out. Can't wait.

You won't have any trouble with traffic that time of year, don't worry about what day you go. In fact, you'll probably have more fun running it on a weekend that late in the year. There may be a few more cars out. Once the leaves are done changing everything slows way down and it can be pretty dead up there.

My Avatar pic was actually taken by one of the photographers that sometimes hang out at the dragon. Lots of other great roads all around there too.

Will most likely plan for Sunday but I am hoping that locals will help with the planning. So you are in Doc? When is the last time you went on a run with several other M3's or cars in general? I just went on one with Theodore and Megabrode a few weeks ago and I still bring it up in conversation. See, I just did again.

I'm in SC but usually go up there once or twice a month. My sister owns a cabin in Bryson City so we are lucky enough to get to go quite often. I'm actually getting together with a friend from the forums on the 19th of Oct. for some road tripping but haven't been able to hook up with anyone else since last fall. Had one of the best days of my life last September when we ran into a group of guys from MI who had come down just to tear up the roads. Super nice guys and we ended up running with them all day, having some beers, etc. There was a sc'd mustang GT, an sc'd c5 Vette, a scar pack Challenger, a 135i and myself and wife. We put almost 500 miles on the car that day and broke many laws including a full on 5 car race on 74 to finish the day. That'll be tough to top but if we can get away I'll shoot for Nov. 19. If you want any info for the trip pm me, I know the area very well.

Good times. In my OP I copy and pasted something from the Tail of the Dragon website about Devils Triangle Moonshiner 28 and other touring roads. Hoping to to able to ride whatever will make it the best ride on a Sunday morning. Maybe run dragons tail early A.M. get some breakfast then set out again for another ride. Lots to talk and think about. I'll PM you tomorrow. Maybe exchange emails. I'm just realizing that Dreamtime is Mary. Hi Mary, I'm thinking this is going to be a memorable day, I can sense it.

Ok you are in, that looks like the possibility of four cars right now and in less than 24hrs of this thread. I'm going to edit the OP and add names and cars. Obviously it can be edited but it would be nice for others to see a running list and might get them motivated if they see some names.

Hmmm... I am driving from Michigan to Vermont that weekend. I guess North Carolina isn't that far out of the way

EDIT: Yes it is. I am going to need a new set of tires before this trip.

I may be interested. It's a short run from the house (I'm in Gainesville). Took the E90 through The Suches Loop a couple weekends back. THAT'S a fun ride (60ish miles?).

Watch yourself on the Tail... It's always heavily patrolled.

This. BOOF I took my E93 M to Smoky mountains a couple of years back during Thanksgiving.
Ripping those curves with the top down, the heater on with the chill air outside and the V8 blaring in your years unobstructed is pure driving ecstasy. It just can't be matched. And I was on my stock exhaust then, I can only imagine how it would be with my Borla Atak now. I can't make this trip this year but it will happen soon and I just can't wait . Have fun and stay safe and of course post lots of pics

You are added to the list Tyler. Definitely open to different/equivalent rides. It is a long way out and we have 6 hopefuls so far. I am thinking it's possible to have 15 to 20 of us by then. I think as a group we can come up with a consensus on meet up time and where, what run we are doing. Do we then eat let the cars cool down etc... then head out on another run etc... Thank you for stepping up Tyler and of course Doc and everyone else who has had some ideas.

Rats M'em, that would have been cool heading up there together. Can't take the E93. The old lady already put her foot down. No way the top is gong down in potential 40 degree weather. And specifically because our boy is coming. He does not like that type of cold weather being used to Florida weather. He came on the last forum ride with Theodore, he loved it and didn't flinch once at the speed of the curves we were taking.

Hoping your tire situation worked itself out, would have been cool if you had made it on that run. Very knowledgeable guys and cool cars.

Yes, the wife is a pretty good photographer, she's bringing her high end camera and has already stated that she can't wait to get out of the car and set up some drive-byes for us.

Well it's not 40 degree all the time. When the sun is out and shining it's around high 50s to mid 60s but anyways if the wife has made the decision who are we to disagree lol. It will be great fun nevertheless. All good with my tires and yeah man that's one drive I wanted to make but missed out. Will make every effort to join next time.
