Rod bearings Melbourne?? Who should do the job?

Hi guys, I m looking at getting rod bearings done in Melbourne.
How many of you have had them done and who did the job??
I was thinking southern bm.
Would love to hear form anyone who has had southern bm do their rod bearings and how much did they charge you.

Andrew at Southern BM is excellent and well qualified for any work. Harrop Engineering in Preston also have substantial experience changing bearings and bolts. Contact there is Julian Patene. At Southern BM Andrew Brien. Either way you can't go wrong

Appreciate the reply, I ll have to contact them and pick a place, a bit nerve wrecking getting the motor pulled apart but I guess they do these all the time.

It's quite routine so don't have any concern. Not doing it is the biggest risk. How many Ks on the motor?

Just hit 100,000km, should I suggest any particular bearing and bolts to them, or just use what they have?

Harrop use VAC custom bearings and ARP rod bolts. I'm not sure what Southern BM use. Both are highly professional so leave the choice to them as they will back their service

I recorded a vid of my car on cold start. Would love to get your opinion/thoughts on if you can hear any bearing issues so far.

There will be substantial wear for sure. Very hard to tell from a vid as there's a lot of noise going on in the motor. It may cost a lot more to not so the replacement and from the concerns you've raised already I think you have already decided and it's good insurance. While the k frame is down it's a good time to replace the engine mounts too oh and BTW that gutter rash could do with a fix too

Hahaha I was expecting a comment on the gutter rash
The last owner sold me the car like that and it s been driving me crazy since. I need to get them fixed but have been putting it of as the car will have to be off the road for a few days:

As for the bearings your right, I ve basically decided I have to do it as it will give me peace of mind and will be safer in the long run.

i felt that i can do skids without worrying about lunching my engine, the bearings were down to copper. Their service is impeccable, I can't fault Andrew and John. You feel reassured leaving your car therewhen you see their workshop. I am a pretty full on DIY person and I choose to have my car serviced by them.

I had mine done at SouthernBM at around 110,000km. They looked fine when they came out. It was done within one day

It's lottery mate...reports of cars with 100,000km with minimal wear right through to 17,000km with excessive wear. Not sure why you would chance it. I'm glad I didn't (@ 55k)

Hi Guys

New to the forum. Just bought a 2013 M3 Pure

Have read lots about the Rod Bearing issue and started digging around on RealOEM

Noticed that the Bearings have been changed 3 times for the car (last in 2010)

I contacted Macht Schnell and asked them if this is an issue for later production cars and he said that it is more than likely not an issue but more related to pre 2010 production cars which would have had the older bearings installed.

He did however suggest at some point to change to ARP Bolts.

Not sure but a lot of issues seem to be based more around hitting the red line before the engine has warmed up to running temp along with the Oil viscosity. My local indy suggested sticking with the BMW M Power Oil at service, rather than Castrol and ensure you do an oil service probably every 6 months.

How do you have a 2013 car that had bearings replaced 3 times with the latest being 3 years before the car was built??
