Should I Buy?

Hi all sorry kind of new to the forums.

Previously had an 2009 x6 sold the thing because warranty was almost out and had to do walnut blasting and was told it was going to cost 6k to do but they did it under goodwill. Nonetheless sold the vehicle.

Saw a post on craigslist for a 2009 e90 m3. Droptop.

50,000KM

2 accidents. 1 bumper 4000k claim and one claim for $24000k.

The 24K claim was because he said he hit the curb and they gave him brand new suspensions and bearings. Reason why he said it cost $24k in damages was because the body shop (actually pretty reputable) had to took off the bumper and what not 3x to find the issue. The issue was just some sort of sound clicking.

So my question to you guys is.

1) Is it worth it (probably can get it for $33000CAD) he's asking for $40000
2) What known issues or problems should I be worried about at this stage and age of the car.

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. The X6 walnut blasting costs around $400. You could have flown someone over there to do the work. Damn stealerships...

I would have a hard time buying a car with two accidents on it. 4k is not 'just a bumper', although it also is not something catastrophic. I am more concerned about their curb-jumping which could have bent the frame.

There are tons of M3s out there that haven't jumped curbs. I'd look for one of those

As far as the age/mileage, regardless of both you will probably want to replace the rod bearings at some point as they're the main issue of the E9X. There's a DIY in my sig for that.

If it has more than 70k kms, I would replace the suspension for the Bilstein B6/8 with or without EDC depending on what came with the car.

Thanks! 400? Really? I called a few shops and they quoted me around $2000 and these are independent shops..

I guess I'll have to pass... What if I can get the car for $25000 LOL doubt he would sell it though.

Even if the bumper was replaced, there's no way it was $4,000. That price is reasonable if the headlamps and radiator got smashed too, which is possible in a medium-speed collision.

As to the $24,000 one, I don't doubt that it could cost that much if the shop had to keep disassembling everything...but the big red flag with that is how the shop had to do it THREE times. I get that on a nasty collision, sometimes they have to go and fix a few more things after the initial repair, but three retries points to incompetence or a pretty serious accident.

I would not buy that car.

You could find so many accident-free M3s for that price range. Hard pass.

Yeah I'm not sure of what and where the car was hit at this point. (was only going to buy carfax if i was for sure interested)

The body shop that did the repair is a very reputable body shop that works on BMW's and Mercedes. Nonetheless the $24k damage is significant. Although the price is in CAD. I was thinking if I could get the car for lets say 25000 CAD it would be worth it... But I guess not. M3's go for around 42K for that year and more if they are newer where I live. (Vancouver Canada)

I'm sure the body shop was reputable, but don't allow their professionalism to serve as lipstick on a pig. I would never expect a car to be the same after $30k in damage, no matter who did the work. You have to assume at some point the repercussions will resurface in the form of continued problems or, if you buy a warranty, a possible denied claim due to the previous damage.

Pass and look for something else. Like others have mentioned, there are plenty of used M3's out there. Good luck.

I hit a deer and my front bumper was replaced and repainted for 800$ by dealer so he is lying about it being 4,000$ to replace a front bumper.
