Lowering Subframe and Steering Spindle
Hey guys, I was trying to swap in some new motor mounts this weekend and I noticed in the TIS for this job its says you need to remove the lower section of steering spindle from the steering gear. Easy enough, its pretty accessible. If you view the steps for removing the steering spindle from the steering gear on the rack it says you first must remove the universal joint?

Is removing the universal joint really necessary to be able to separate the lower steering spindle from the steering gear? The universal joint is tucked pretty far up in there right next to the firewall and I'm worried that it will be a huge PITA if i separate it from the steering column. Does anyone have any experience with this, is it not possible to just remove the lower steering spindle from the steering gear without removing the universal joint?
