Maximum Bearing Clearance
Just wanting to ask members of the forum of maximum rod bearing clearance.
I am in the process of getting my bearings changed for BE Bearings with OEM bolts, and had a call from my mechanic (a BMW Master Technician) saying that the new RBs are showing a clearing slightly greater than 0.003". My understanding is from the BE wiki that the maximum clearance was 0.0028" Now, there may be some variation or error in reading clearances, particularly as he reckoned the old clearance was slightly under 0.003" (??), but assuming the new reading is correct - could anyone please advise. Thank you!!! PS: There was wear consistent with most pictures on this forum from the old bearings. |

I answered your PM. So far it seems like everyone who has measured them and found issues (too much or too little clearance) was measuring wrong. Remember plastigage is only an approximation

It's a shame I can't "archive" this post to another folder. |
