...Hyundai/Kia (all of this due to potential rod bearing failures) says that "because the engines can fail and stall" increasing the risk for a crash, they're going to recall 1.4+ million car and inspect them, and if warranted, replace the blocks.

Kia documents posted Friday by U.S. regulators show the company at first didn't think the problem affected its engines because warranty claims and field reports were low. But claims started growing and by May 2016 the company extended warranties on the engines. Eventually it decided to do a recall because of the potential safety problem.

So they're recalling 1.4+ million cars to correct this issue and BMW is fighting a class action lawsuit for 65,965 E9X M3s when we've had documented rod bearing failures in which engines have seized and almost caused a crash. I guess BMW is waiting for someone to actually crash or die before they finally do something about the issue.....?

It comes down to simple $$$. BMW will stand to make more money by not fixing the issue but for Hyundai it's worth the cost because it will restore trust in the brand.

...different cultures. Germans are a mighty stubborn group (I know - I'm one of them). BMW Had to get dragged in front of 60 minutes to finally fix HPFP in n54. How many times did VW first deny diesel-gate?? Now how many $billions.
Anyhow - I agree - should be addressed in e9x M cars. Heck this forum is nothing but Rod Bearing related posts now.
