Ohlins Spring Rates

Im going to upgrade the spring rates on my Ohlins R&T as I won't be using the M on the street very much anymore. It'll primarily be a track car. I was thinking of using 504 front and 784 rear spring rates. Does anyone have any other recommendations? I believe this is about as stiff as you can go without re-valving the dampers.

Im sure everyone has an opinion but I would check in with ACM or one of the other tuners who has a ton experience with not just the R&T but with setting them up with various not Ohlin accessories (perches, camber plates, springs, etc). They have seen a bunch of different setups with the same kit so couldn give you feedback on setups they have seen and feedback from customers.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

I would also check with harold@hpa. He's done a pretty fair amount of work with spring rate changes on his own cars as well as others. I was about to upgrade my springs on the Ohlins as well, but ultimately swapped them out for a setup better suited for track days with compression and rebound adjustments.

I believe the 504 fronts are too much spring and are past the +- 30% that the ohlins are valved for. I ran a 448/784 when i had mine, after speaking to Jake at Ohlins directly (he was extremely helpful, even though I wanted to change springs - Most companies seem to want to talk you out of revising anything without revalving).

I wanted to go 550/800, but he advised against the 550 in the front. 784 in the rear is just fine. I went with a swift setup. I really liked the stiffer ride on the street, but the fronts needed to be stiffer. I was at roebling road raceway in Savannah and the front was giving me some diving problems on turn 5A into 5B.

I eventually sold the Ohlins setup, and went with KW clubsports, and am now in the process of installing a Moton setup, 2 way remote reservoir for the track.

If you are truly looking for a track oriented setup I would look into selling the Ohlins and using that money towards something else. I loved them for double duty, quality was superb, but as I moved more track dedicated, the front springs were simply just not stiff enough for those high speed sweepers.

Ohlins R&T can be tuned to work very well. 500 font and 900 real would be max(recommend revalving), but 400-450 front with 800 rear would be more ideal and still leave you some damping adjustment without being under damped. It is not a track setup so it's apples to oranges when compared to two-way track coilovers.

A local e9x m3 we helped setup can turn a 1:57 with sticky street tires @ Buttonwillow 13 clockwise (I think that was the config.). His driving skill I would rate as average with no coaching. Turn down the damper 5 clicks he can still drive home in comfort.

Any track time on these rates? I felt that the 450 was just too soft in the front with the ohlins around the track.

Just installed them yesterday and so far have put around 300 miles on them. No track yet. Having said that, switch in from 800lb front to 450 front there is definitely some body roll. Not too much but it's there.

Id like to run 500 900. Not concerned with street comfort. Anyone know where i can get this spring. Has to be 65mm 8inch front 10inch rear. Has anyone run this set up? I don't want to under damp the spring.

You will also need to run camber plates.

Have a look at the kit here:
