Topspeed Quad Resonated X Pipe Review

Hi guys,

When I was looking to for a catless x pipe I came across the Topspeed quad resonated x pipe. I hadn't seen much information on this particular product. But a couple of forum members had it. Through PMs I learned that they had very positive experience. I went ahead and purchased it. The following is a short review after about 2000 miles of ownership.

The build quality is extremely solid. The welds are very nicely and cleanly laid out. I have seen much more expensive exhaust parts that didn't have this type of welds. Stainless steel is highly polished. The fitment is spot on. I DIY installed and had no issue aligning everything up.

Before Install:

Installed:

Sound:
I paired x pipe up with an Amuse / Agency Power style exhaust. The cold start is is a bit loud as expected with a catless setup. After cold start the idle is near oem sound level. Slightly more volume and deeper. Here is video of warm idle:

Once get going with quad resonators the sound is smooth and deep, not raspy at all. I have never been a fan of raspy exhaust on S65. Once you open it up the exhaust screams! The sound gets high pitched up the rev range. But still not raspy. There is slight resonance around 1800-2000 rpm probably due to the axle back exhaust. Resonance is completely gone above 2K. This setup really complimented the S65 engine and delivered what I wanted in terms of sound. While driving normally you could hear some growl. The car just sounds beefy without being obnoxious. Downshift with DCT is simply amazing! Here is video of some reving, nothing crazy:

There is noticeable power gain that I can feel in the upper rev range with this catless setup. I have not dyno'd the setup. But I expect the gain to be comparable to most catless x pipes out there.

With a catless setup there is the smell of exhaust fume. To be honest I didn't factor that in before going this route. Some don't mind the smell or even enjoy it. But after about 2000 miles of enormously enjoying the sound of the x pipe and exhaust combo I decided the smell is a bit much for me. While I highly recommend the x pipe for sound and power gain, I do want to point out the exhaust smell might be an issue depending on your preference.

With that said I have just removed the x pipe and switched back to OEM temporarily while looking for something with maybe HFC. I will put it up for sale soon and post a link. Overall this quad resonated x pipe delivers great value, sound and performance. Just be mindful of the smell of the exhaust fume

Even though it has HFCs, they are no resonators. Do you think that will be a problem.

good writeup, I also have the TopSpeed quad resonator x-pipe...I'm doing my exhaust in stages. I have the CNT race rear mufflers with OEM x-pipe and cats, will try installing the TopSpeed x-pipe to see how much louder...aside from smell was there a noticeable difference in sound tone after installing the x-pipe?

In my experience the sound did get louder and deeper moving from OEM xpipe to quad res x pipe. It's definitely noticeable. The sound also got less raspy and a little bit smoother.

ok thanks...was curious to know about sound level increase from adding the quad res x-pipe...on a scale of 1 to 10...how much of an increase in sound? 4? 5? 6? aside from the raspy noise disintegration.

I had ended up installing this x pipe this past weekend then I hit the dyno and very slight change in sound only because on my ESS tine it eliminates the cold start so its quiet. I have to say the resonators really does help a lot...the sound sis nice and heavy bass with my CNT muffler and not offensive at all...even on the dyno which I have videos but can't post here since there's a limit.

You shouldn't. In my experience, you will not notice with windows closed. Only when idling in traffic with a lot of congestion, in the garage, drive-thru and so on. It's not overwhelming but noticeable.

Had a total reverse of your experience in that my x-pipe wouldn't line up and had huge gaps for exhaust leaks. Took to multiple shops and they were quite unimpressed I paid money for the setup.
