Software update for 09 E92 M3?

I talked to my local dealership the other day regarding my 09 E92 M3 which I was told qualifies for a software update. Im wondering if this is totally necessary and what benefits an update may have? Sometimes when putting the DCT in drive or reverse it can be a bit "clunky." But nothing dramatic. Also on occasion when downshifting the automatic throttle blip acts a bit strange. The gear will downshift but the throttle blip will come a few seconds after the downshift. But this doesnt happen all the time. Does this update make a difference or is it not needed?

Updating will definitely help. I would recommend also getting the GTS transmission tune which I have found is much smoother even compared to the latest standard software. No more "clunk" when coming to a stop and initial clutch bite is much better especially when cold.

Is the GTS transmission tune an aftermarket tune or something that the dealership offers? If its not from the dealership Im not sure where I could get this done..

Its aftermarket. Its a tune from the M3 GTS that has been tweaked slightly to work on our cars. I got mine from one of the vendors on the forum.. Alex@Alpine. He can do it it remotely where he ships you a cable, all you need is a laptop.

Pretty much all aftermarket transmission tunes available are very close variants of the M3 GTS file.
