Why do folks sell their Power Pulley Kits?

Thinking of getting a power pulley kit since I need to replace the power steering pulley anyways as it's chipped in a few places.

It seems however that a lot of people end up selling them, so what's the downside to these pulley kits?

i have one sitting behind the bed and cant wait to install, so i'm not an 'active' user, but...

my understanding is there is no downside except for additional strain on the power steering pump.

out of all the posts that i have read the only one mentioning anything negative was one talking about additional strain on the ps pump.

Wouldn't under driving the power steering put less strain on it?
Just seems like I see many people remove them and sell them...

I think that a pulley is one of the last things people do for acceleration and I would assume a lot of people just end up supercharging to get the extra desired power. I could be entirely wrong, but that's just one idea as to why you see them up for sale after a short life on the car.

I have tried to convince myself on this one and still can't find a good reason to do it. If you are trying to gain 3-5 hp then go ahead and do it. The down side is the PS stress. Don't forget that for every mod there is a down side. The question is, is it worth it? On a pulley like this I will do it only if I have done many other mods before this one and 3-5 hp will be the difference between winning and loosing a race. I wouldn't do this on my DD.

exactly how many HP I gained i am not sure through my pulley kit, but for less than 300 USD as a power mod.

damn good bargain mate !.

They buy superchargers. I can't afford one of those. Been enjoying my pulley for 4 years. Intakes get sold for the same reason -- neither mod is compatible with a supercharger. There are also some people taking mods off their leased cars before returning them or selling mods separately so they can claim the car is stock when selling it.

Wouldn't underdriving the power steering system create less stress?
I figure its a few ponies and it puts less load on all the accessories hopefully helping them last longer.

They are a bitch to install (well no, the stupid fan is just a bitch to re/re), and they don't really have noticeable effect (I've installed quite a few).

With the A/C and alternator disconnecting at WOT your are only really under-driving the water pump and the power steering.
I'd be nervous about under driving the water pump myself.

I couldn't even come close to feeling the difference in power and it under drove the power steering which made the steering heavy at low speeds and quick steering movements.

Ah, now I think were getting somewhere. You could actually feel that the power steering was not as light.

What power pulley kit were you using? I notice some come with a power steering pulley and some don't. I'm guessing the ones with a power steering pulley are trying to make the power steering pump spin at stock speeds to negate what you just mentioned...

I have the Rogue pulley and my car is an early 08 so it uses just one pulley (no PS pulley change necessary). Maybe the Rogue does not under drive all the accessories, but I have no issues with steering at slow speeds and I run 265/35/18 fronts. I also have no cooling issues over the past 4 years, but I do not track the car and I do not live in an area where temps get over 100F.

I did not buy the pulley for WOT acceleration only. I like the response during normal daily driving. Certainly the x-pipe makes the most difference in feel of all the mods -- it really helps on the low end as you can see from any x pipe vs stock dyno. But I think these cars need about 10-15% more power and you have to do all the bolt on mods to get it. With all the mods, my car is much more responsive in daily driving. I like the feel a lot more than stock.

The dynos of pulleys show 7 rwhp gains. These are the results even though the stock ECU may cut off AC and ALT at WOT. Assuming that happens, the pulley results are even more significant during normal, not WOT driving.

http://www.superstreetonline.com/how...ke-charge-kit/

The dyno tests in the article also show the benefits of an intake -- almost 13 rwhp. Both mods together added up to almost 20 rwhp and 7 lbs rwtq.

If you are interested, there is a follow up European Car/Super Street article that adds an x-pipe and a tune. You can search for it, but I think the total gain over the baseline is almost 50 rwhp. Huge on what is considered an already high strung V8. They did not break 400 rwhp. I think they made 397 rwhp, but that might have been STD, which would be only about 388 rwhp SAE.

I was just reading that article 2 days ago. Yeah, 50hp extra sound great to me. I am still undecided on the X-pipe even thought its probably the best place to make power because it removed all the cats. I might be able to get away with test pipes to remove just the primary cats.

Here's a link to the article for anyone else interested. (3 Parts)

The x pipe really helps. It is as much as a 25 lb bump in torque as low as 2500 rpm, which is close to 10% torque gain. Not sure how close just test pipes get to that, but I am sure you can find some dynos to compare.

Trust me, If I thought I could get away with it with emission testing I would..

How about sound? If I leave the stock muffler will it get much louder with a open x-pipe? I like it quiet personally...

I run 4 resonators. If you want quiet, that is the way to go. Dinan and Borla use 4. Some x pipes have none or 2. If you do just test pipes, the exhaust won't be much louder than stock.

Ok, but with an open x-pipe its going to be quite a bit louder or just a little louder? A little is ok.

Not much louder till you step on it. It'll be quite a bit louder after 4k rpm.
