Getting sc'ed, should i do rod bearings also?

So i've decided that it's time to go with the ESS VT2-625 kit through Kevin @ EAS. My only question/concern is should i also do the rod bearings at the same time? The rod bearings have always been on the back of my mind praying to god the engine doesn't blow up, but then again some people have said it's a rare occurrence. What would you guys do?

If you have the funds, I'd for sure do them as a preventative measure for sure!

If it's already at the back of your mind without the SC, I think it's a no brainer to do it. SC just adds another variable to the mix..

Get a blackstone oil analysis report. I did and it determined that I have high lead and iron content so I decided to do my bearings when the car went in for an ESS kit. I was at 58k miles

Oil report sometimes is inconclusive. I would do it given the mileage

I second the oil report being inconclusive.

Two local failures came after "clean" BS reports.

THIS. If you're going to step up the power, might as well cover the bases while you're at it. SC + Rod Bearings = Set it and forget it.

Do it sir, make sure to post pics of your old bearings. They are usually pretty worrying to look at.

If you can afford to SC, you can afford to do them. If you can't afford the extra $2k, you should probably wait until you can.

The car will be taken apart for the supercharger, might as well have it done while it is down

Talking Do the rod bearings bro

If the car is getting done at EAS for the Supercharger get the rod bearings done to bro . Nothing wrong with having a peace of mind with no worries so you can enjoy your new found power.

You will thank us later bro

Definitely post pics. Hopefully they will help inspire more bearing repairs and less engine replacements.

I was facing the same difficult choice. I'm a big fan of PD blowers and think the wider powerband would work more effectively with a 6MT car vs a centri unit (6MT cars have poor gearing). The Harrop is obviously a high quality piece too. I think the main issue now is lack of time of it being out. There is no stage 2 kit so the stage 1 power output is comparable to a non-intercooled ESS or VF kit. A lot more fun to drive I'm sure, but you're paying 2x the money at that point almost.

I considered how much more affordable the ESS kits are now; the 625 kit is priced VERY competitively and IMO is a helluva deal right now. So I ended up going with a 650 kit to get the upgraded pulley system and extra bit of power. Couple that with the free install or free X-pipe that comes with it and the choice became obvious at that point. I ended up dynoing 536whp on a Superflow Autodyne30 dyno (reads about 6-8% lower than a Dynojet dyno) in 95degF Florida heat and 90% humidity.

It's almost certain that it's wasted money if you do it.
This forum has completely falsified the perception of this rare issue.
If you do, it's 99% driven by unjustified hysteria, and << 1% by rational need.

Do the math.
