HFC XPIPE
Hey guys,
So I am on the hunt for an HFC Xpipe. I have looked at a shit ton of threads regarding this and yes I know I won't get the most power gains but I'm really just looking for a boost in sound when I'm at the track #becauseracecar LOLS. I've seen posts where vendors are claiming that their HFC versions do not throw CEL while customers are claiming that they do. These are based on older threads - also read that BMW had some change in their software that caused them to throw codes now. Also, if I went catless I was leaning towards Dinan software to retain warranty but my friend said that option is out the window as well as BMW does not recognize Dinan like that anymore. Is this true? I don't want to get a tune (yes, it maximizes gains I know) but is there coding or a "tune" that doesn't change anything except the way the o2 sensors are read - in that case, get a catless setup for awesome sound and get the CEL for o2 coded out and don't mess with any other parameters. Is this truly not an option and is it really having to find an HFC one that doesn't trigger CEL or a "street" version and leaving the primary cats in? There are so many options out there - I can't find the thread again since I had so many open at once for hours and hours before passing out at 4am (addict) but one member had a bunch of setups and a few different sound clips - challenge full setup, challenge plus dinan (with isf in video), and something else. That car sound awesome (car was blue, youtuber david katalan or something like that). There were some other combos that were nice: Eisnemann race plus Challenge, etc. Currently have stock X with OEM mod. Seems like most ppl like a deep sound, but personally I think that belongs on JDM stuff and am looking for slight rasp with high pitched noises that just scream like batshit hell especially on heel toe downshifting. I do not care about drone. Would appreciate all your input. Thanks in advance. |

I went with AFE xpipe with HFC combined with Akrapovic slip on and true to AFE promise, zero CEL since install about a month now. Sorry no video but quite mellow until hitting 4K rpm then it's sweet music to my ears.

I've been running the full ESS exhaust with their HFC xpipe for about a year. No CEL. I think it offers great performance, sound, and build quality at a reasonable price.

If you're going to get rid of the primary cats, you should really get a tune.
If you keep the primary cats or do HFC up front, you're always going to run the risk of getting a CEL. Supersprint has these "micro-cats" that go on the O2 sensor ports, but haven't heard if they really work. O2 extenders seem to work in combination with 200cpi cats up front, but you don't hear much about that set-up, which leads me to believe they don't work that well. .

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."
