December vs January. When should I purchase my E92 M3?

Hi,

I've been looking for E92 M3s for a while and I am finally ready to pull my trigger. There aren't that many used E92 M3s with competition package in the market right now, there are 4-5 2012/2013 M3s with competition package. Most of them are around $66k-$70K. There is this one 2012 E92 M3, 20k km, no accident, but its in Dakar Yellow. I like the colour, but I think it stands out too much. The dealer offered me $58k for it, but I am not completely sold because of the colour + not a CPO. Dealer offered extended warranty for $3300 however.

I've never bought a used car before and I would appreciate if someone could tell me how much these cars will depreciate as of Jan 1st 2015. I want to know if I should buy my M3 during Christmas season or I should just wait till Jan 2015.

Thanks

What do you think will happen on 1/1/15? Naturally used cars depreciate over time but over the course of the next few weeks nothing magical will happen. If you find a car you like but it immediately.

Nothing will happen in January price-wise. But you can always wait another 2 weeks to check by yourself. Don't worry I am sure the car wont be sold by then.

I see I see. thanks for the input. I've always bought my cars around summer time so I wanted to know if 2012 models will drop in value as we enter 2015.

Typically you can work a better deal near the end of any given month. The fact that the date is now 2015, you might be able to squeak more out of the deal. (woohoo 600 posts)

For what it's worth, a 2010 I had my eye on for the last month was dropped by $2k this week. Might just be a coincidence since it hadn't sold at the original price, or might be related to being a new year.

Thanks guys. I couldn't wait further so I decided to pull my trigger on the car. I picked it up on Christmas eve It seemed to me best deal comes around the end of the month + Christmas holiday season (people don't really shop cars).

Congrats on your new ride!
Yes, I think any advantage you can get in buying your car you should take advantage of...trust me, dealers use each and every tool at their disposal in selling it, so you have to do what you can to level the playing field so to speak...
Some of which were already mentioned...like buying at the end of the month on a week day if possible...buying on a rainy day...during the slower months (usually winter time in colder climates when sales drop) and yes I think 2015 gives you an advantage since technically the car is now one year older

Thanks My cousin is thinking of getting Porsche Macan this week so this should be interesting. I will be able to see if the dealer puts better promo but then Porsches never really have to push their cars to sell.. hmm
