Schroth Quick-Fit Pro: Some questions

Gents,

I'm looking to pick up a pair of Quick-Fit Pros* for the track. I was looking at getting them through HMS Motorsport (http://www.hmsmotorsport.com/store/s...ck-fit-pro-bmw) and have some questions:

1) I get the impression that there is one or two anchor straps that most people generally leave installed full time. True? If so, that might dictate what color straps I go with.

2) Are the "harness pads" worth it? I don't mind adding them on, but not if they are going to bunch up or get in the way.

3) What in gods name are the "harness grips"? I can't seem to find pics of those online? Useful or not?

*Obviously I'll only need one for myself, but figured I should probably get one for the instructors inevitably riding in my car. I'm guessing it would be a dick move to have a sweet QFP for myself while my instructor is relegated to the factory belt.

yes the anchor straps are left in place in the back seat area as well as the one along the door anchored to the seat. i got the harness pads and found them comfortable and useful. harness grips just make it easier to pull down the shoulder pulls and arent really needed.

for me i never removed the harness and just used it all the time on the street as well until switching to regular full 6 point harness.

I too just leave the anchors in. I'll occasionally grab the harness and use it for daily driving..........Phil

up to you neither is essential. if you have hans then no on the pads also.

Some clubs require that both the driver and instructor/passenger have the same seats & restraints.

Other problem is that more and more clubs are banning the use of 4 point restraints at their DE events. I have this system and like it but the last two outings they weren't permitted.

Most HPDE organizations require equal restraints for the driver and passenger.

Hmmm. Don't like the sound of this. Any idea which orgs don't allow them?

Pads and grips are not at all necessary IMO. I have never had any issues running them on the track with the more low key organizations. I have never ran with pca or bmwcca so I can't speak to their rules.

Thanks. Looks like I need to get in touch with local BMWCCA groups to see what's up. Would hate to drop the coin on this, only to find I can't use it at many of the events I intend.

If the local BMW CCA chapters aren't allowing them, you should request help from the National office (like exec vp Steve Johnson).

The Schroth's are fine as a 4-pt harness because they have the anti-submarine design and the one strap elongates in a crash so if you roll and the roof comes in you don't break your neck. Other 4-pt harnesses do not.

Well one way around this particularly if you are solo is to do tech with stock belts but then install them prior to your run group. Not that I endorse that, but I've done it a couple times. Works most of the time but then one other time I was told by the track crew (the ones checking the armbands) to remove the belts and then get back in line.

The unique thing about the Schroth quick fit harnesses (not the rallye's) is they are DOT tested for each car. If stock belts pass then schroth quick fits will pass.

The Quick-Fit Pros also have a provision in the buckle for a anti sub belt if you want or need to add one.

PCA National policy allows them, CCA is YMMV

I would unclip harnesses when not in use. They degrade over time with exposure to sun. If you have a HANS, spend the extra for the Pro and you won't need pads.

Are you sure? They are DOT approved and fully legal

PCA rulebook specifically allows the Quikfits, as does BMWCCA

A club that allows 3 point belts has to allow the 4 point as per DOT they are as safe as the 3 points.
