BMW CCA L.A. Chapter Adult Car Control Clinic, November 9th at Auto Club Speedway (scroll down to the register link, for some reason this site/forum software edits the link so that it doesn't work)

L.A. Chapter of BMW CCA is holding a car control clinic at Auto Club Speedway on November 9th. It's a great chance to experience your car near, at, AND past the limit of adhesion and learn the skills to bring it right back. These skills are LIFE SAVERS. Not only will they be vital in your development on track, but they're vital for your own safety.

It's the difference between spinning out at the first sight of a rainstorm here in So. Cal (not that we EVER see it) or laughing at the guy who beached his high powered RWD on the side of the road against the curb.

Not for the tire testing part, I don't think. For the Car Control Clinic it would have to be done in your car.

Event is handled by the AX staff so I don't have all the details, but for those of us doing more DEs than autocross, this could be a great supplemental skill to have.

Yeah, I'm most interested in the car control clinic part. Wouldn't mind turning the nannies off in a safe controlled environment where there's nothing to hit.

FYI, there are giant parking lot lamp poles in the autox area CCA uses at ACS.

They will setup the "track" away from the poles but anything can happen.

No there isn't. Not in the lot we use, which is outside the kart track. It's a gigantic space with nothing to hit.

Is the car control clinic a half day event or a full day event? Is a helmet required? Do you think it'd be a good issue to use my 6pt so I can really feel the car sliding?

I think it's run by the AX team, with AX rules. I would probably bring a helmet, although our past Car Control Clinics did not require it.

I don't know about the 6 point, but if that's your primary configuration for most of your events, I would think it's in your best interest to run with it at the clinic.

I wish I can give you more info, but since AX is handling the event, I don't have all the info at my finger tips. Probably wouldn't hurt to email the AX chairperson to get some of your questions answered.

Huh. It appears I was wrong. Based on Google Maps satellite view there ARE giant light poles...

Maybe I was so zoned into the "look at where you want to go, not what you want to hit" mantra that I never saw them. Or the course designer was skilled in leading your eyes away from it.

Now that I think back, I think I parked the water truck by one of the light poles at the last TRSS.

haha. when I used to go to the autox events when randy "moco" was running it, we set up the course to drive away from the huge lamps (good autox has good volunteers!). but if its someone who doesnt really have control of the car or is experimenting, anything can happen.

just enjoy and test the limits bit by bit and you will fine usctrojan. just because its autox doesnt mean go balls to the wall the first time out. like everything else gotta be patient and learn to control. personally I've learned and developed my car control skill 1000% more in my last 4-5 events drifting intentionally in a controlled manner than i have trying to be smooth for two years with mdm on.

once you feel the limits and learn how to react, it gets easier and easier.

like the hack says, look in the right direction and you wont even see walls. i never see walls anymore. except at acs through the roval sometimes

Due to insurance and liability the only passengers allowed in ANY of our performance driving events (CCC, autocross, DEs) are instructors. We do not allow any none instructors to take passengers.
