Shifter Malfunction Error - Will not drive.

Hello,

My 2008 e92 M3 is having a shifter malfunction error. It will not drive or go into gear but the car starts fine. The last time I drove it, everything seemed fine. I tried to drive it again and I got this error. I have taken it to 2 different shops (Not the dealer) with no avail. Anyone else ran into this issue or have any insight before I spend my life savings at the dealer? Ha

Thanks.

Sometimes the shifters go bad. Anyone with m3 near you that you can swap dct shifters? Also post the fault code

check to see if your crankshaft pulse sensor came loose at the DCT passenger side, you just need to remove the cover to access it.

the car wouldnt start if this came loose,

your gear selector has probably began to go bad. I would try swapping it out.

Have you ever done this? I have changed the fuel pump in the tank before. That is advanced as I have done myself. Or would you recommend taking it in?

When you change one, do you usually change both?

No, just the shift knob from the boot up first. Research by Google the codes being thrown to be sure.

Not sure what codes you have but the car can drive without even having the dct shift knob installed. I just did this while I had my car ripped all apart. So I wouldn't jump to needing to replace the entire shift knob.

Read the codes with an OBD II code scanner. Then post the codes here. Someone will know what the fault codes mean. The image in your original post is not showing on the Bimmerpost phone App.
