My Rod Bearings Spun and destroyed my engine

It happens! 2011 E93 M3, completely stock, spun a rod bearing at 62k miles.... I have extended warranty with Century Warranty Services - Power Care Plus Plan, which I am hoping will cover an engine replacement... wish me luck!!!

This absolutely sucks.

But is also the reason I would much prefer an m3 with 140k+with all maintenance done.

Knowing the rotating assembly has made it that long. That it’s probably a keeper.

62k? wow ! how did it happen?

Why does the bearing wear vary so much on the E9X? on the E46 you really dont hear about low mileage cars with RB issues. most people change them around 100k

I think there is a thread somewhere that discusses the rod bearing issues on these cars.

Tolerance stacking, small variance in bearing size, designed with extremely small tolerances.

Looks like bearing revenue is down during covid 19 so new user name and some hysteria is what we needed.

Many owners are not on the forum. The OP may have found it only after his engine threw a rod and he wanted to find out more about this car he has.

We should have a poll or something where the people who think the rod bearings are a conspiracy put their names. It would provide more entertainment when it blows

Dang, I have about 62K miles but I have found the sure fire way to avoid a spun bearing. Take it off the road. Good luck with warranty and keep us posted.

anyone who thinks RB are a conspiracy might as well believe earth is square. RB wear is well documented across 10w-60 running motors for two decades now. S54, S62, S85 and S65 all "suffer" from this
