Video: Driving with hand controls in my M3 and how I get my wheelchair inside

UPDATE: I added a second video specifically showing how I get in and out of the car, disassemble and reassemble the wheelchair and transfer/store all the pieces inside the car.
Here’s a video of me getting in M3 and fitting my wheelchair inside. The main portion of the video is showing how I use the hand controls along with the DCT during a spirited drive. I will get better quality footage in the next few days. Below is a link to my last post showing photos of the hand controls and the car with a long list of mods.

https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1847070

This car means the world to me. After my injury I was told I was going to need to sell the M3 and get something more disabled friendly like a van. I refused to let that be the case and made it a point to show everyone I could still do and enjoy the same things I did before my injury. The biggest one of them being racing and cars in general. So instead of selling my M3 I had hand controls installed and lots of mods. I am proud of where I am at today. I live every day with a smile on my face and I thank god I am still here.

Always wondered how you got the wheelchair in. Pretty sick that it's CF and comes apart like that.

I’ll be updated this thread hopefully tomorrow with a better video showing exactly how I get the chair in and out from the outside perspective. The chair is sick and the rims on my wheelchair match the rims on my car

Pretty sweet.

I'm curious why you need to be diligent about your left leg remaining on the dead pedal? Are the floor pedals still installed? If so could you remove them or build, I don't know a plate or something in front of them so you wouldn't have to worry about inadvertently hitting them?

Did you design the set up or is it a kit of some sort?

I have the pedals still in place so anyone else can still drive the car and I can switch over to the hand control system with the push of a button. My left leg does move off the plate a bit and I worry about it possibly affecting my braking because my knee gets in the way of the brake on the hand controls.

If this thread doesn't scream motivation and perseverance I don't know what does. For us "car guys" or "enthusiasts" however you want to label it driving cars is much much more than getting from point A to point B it's an extremely humbling and grounding experience and this beautiful platform further solidifies that extraordinary feeling you get with each and every drive.

I'm so proud of you for following your passion and not giving a fuck what doctors told you. You made it your mission that no one will stand in between you and your car.

Drive on brother!

Super cool video thanks for sharing! That cf wheel chair is sweet! Watching your process it seems much less difficult than I'd expect, but I'm sure that's just you making it look easy!

At my local track there's a guy who runs his 996 auto in intermediate with the Porsche club. Hand controls and all just like this!

Thank you, it means a lot. I wasn’t even sure people wanted to see content like this so thank you to everyone who’s said all the kind words. It just motivates me to continue sharing my M3 and the highs and lows of being a paralyzed car enthusiast.
