He posted in this thread - https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1747467
I thought you'd posted in it, but I see now you didn't (I did).

I think I added him to my list, I'll double check.
[edit] No he isn't, probably because I was waiting for him to tear the engine down.
But it looks like he isn't going to, so I'll add him to the undetermined list.

WHY? Just why...

Add me... 2008 e90 M3 6-spd, 120k miles.

Had the Rod Bearings replaced. King Racing + ARP Bolts. This car has cost me SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much in maintenance. I've spent every dollar it's needed since I bought it.

Through a rod and punched a 2 inch hole in the block. I'm done.

Anyone posting about oil analysis or BS like that, I shouldn't have to spend $20k on engine maintenance at a professional shop that works on these cars every day and still have complete and catastrophic engine failure. So what I spent $20k and now I'm out another $12k just because BMW can't get their sh*t together to address this issue.

And no it isn't "Less than 1% of all M3's have this issue". THEY ALL HAVE IT. IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME. ARGUE WITH ME IF YOU WANT, BUT THE S65 MOTOR IS GARBAGE. PERIOD.

I'm selling the f-ing thing and never looking back.

I don't know if King changed their design, but when King first offered S65 bearings, they were NOT for OEM replacement. If the design has not been updated, that might explain the failure. The installation notes (shown below), if not followed, would lead to too much crush and too little clearance.

Installation Notes: King CR 224SV rod bearings are not intended for OEM replacements. Usage of these rod bearings requires the connecting rod big-end to be honed to size with new rod bolts. The OEM connecting rod big-end bore is specified between 56.0000 - 56.0130 mm. The King big-end specification is set to 56.055mm -- which is larger than factory specifications. Due to this change in specification, the rod big-end bore must be honed to match these specification before these rod bearings would be suitable for use. Consult your engine builder before attempting to use these bearings as an OEM replacement.

Damn, that might explain it. The shop use would only warranty the work if they used King, but I know as a fact they didn't hone anything, just put them in and sent it. The shop is closed down so I don't know what to so about it as this was obviously their fault for not installing them correctly. I wish I knew this earlier...

RIP S65

Although it's not certain it's bearing failure at this point. They seemed to think it might be piston failure, I guess we'll only know when they strip it down.
Will you be monitoring their channel?

Hey Nick . I think less because there are less S65's left by the worldwide bearing failures and car accidents .
When there are fewer left, the percentage will also decrease .

...plus I'm thinking early owners who didn't quite appreciate the mechanical sympathy required by the S65 has left the scene or learned.
Not saying some motors have blown simply because tolerance stack up but I personally assume quite a few went due to lack of care.

Yeah , it's part of it . Floor it when the engine isn't warmed up , and that's what you can get ...

And sooner or later we can add them in the (very long) Bimmerpost list

But the Bimmerpost list is just a small % of the worldwide S65 bearing failures ..
Just like the latest Austrian S65 blown engine , the guy drove his ///M3 like a savage and he's 'not at Bimmerpost .
