Shopping M3
Need some help M3 guys. Looking to buy a 2013 M3, and currently I drive a 2013 M5, and a 2006 650ci which has 50k on the milage. Time to upgrade, and options are 2013 991S or the M3 as I know this is the last V8. Also don't kill me the RS5 is pretty hot too which is on the table after the 991. How much do you all love the M3 or would you wait for the M4. My last M3 was 2002 which I sold for family reason "new baby". The M3 would look cool next to the M5, and when I want to drive alone. Thanks for the input, and I guess you can say I'm stuck on 3 cars.

You've already got a "dual purpose" car in the M5 -- sure it's a little more on the luxury side of the luxury/sport continuum than the M3 would be, but if you've already got something like that I would pick up an even more pure driver's car. Greater contrast would make for greater appreciation of both cars, IMHO. So on your list that would be the 991, but maybe also consider a 997 GT3, or a Cayman S? Or go even further in a different direction and get a C7 Vette or used C6?
Don't get me wrong, I love my M3 to death, especially because of that sweet S65, which is why I don't expect to be tempted by the M4 in the least. But I also chose it largely because I knew it would be my only car, so I wanted something that could do everything pretty well. If you've got multiples, you can afford to get something that's especially good at one thing at the cost of other factors.

If it were me, I'd buy the 991.
I have an e90 M3 for a daily sedan and a Lotus Elise for weekend fun. An M5 and a 991 is the bigger version of that combination. |

1. The engine. Simply magnificent. Nothing like it short of a Ferrari, IMO. 2. Value. Not cost, but value. Bang for the buck is always somewhat a consideration for me. In this regard, a new Porsche is a terrible value. On the other hand, you can usually find a very nicely optioned low mileage Porsche for significant savings. I bought my Cayenne GTS with PDCC and 21" sport design wheels for $67k with 8600 miles on it. New is was over $92k. 3. This is the most important one.......Don't think about the car out of context. Think about how it will actually be used. For me, I knew that even as a pure toy, much of my time in the M3 was going to be spent driving to our vacation home near the coast which is a 2 hour drive. As such, I need a certain level of smoothness and comfort, as well as the ability to carry a certain degree of cargo and people from time to time. No use buying a car that just sits in your garage because you can't drive it even when you want to.

Good feed back, and thanks. The M5 is actually the long hauler as it drives great on the hwy. This purchase will be my fun car, and not worried about multi functional. Thanks again!
