carbon fiber roof overlay or black vinyl overlay or paint?

hey guys,
i got a few scratches on my roof from some hail in newyork .

I dont want my interlagos blue e92 to look cheezy but i need to fix my roof.

i was thinking of getting a vynil overlay , cf or black, reason why i want an overlay is because it is not perminent and the car is leased.

i wouild hate to paint it black and then repaint it blue when i return the vehicle.

i definitly dont want to keep my roof blue.

What do you guys think?

and where can i get good quality overlays? and please share photos

wouldnt they charge you for the mess on the roof when your lease is due anyway?

if not, just do overlay since you mentioned that u dont want to paint it black and repaint it blue.

if yes, just fix the paint.

Just fix the scratches and get on with it. If you wanted a CF roof look then you should have just ordered it that way!

It's your car, do whatever pleases you. People are going to have different opinion on the forums and there's no right or wrong opinion. There's a guy in NYC that does good black vinyl overlay. His S/N is bluebatmobile or something like that.

Found more info for you, they guy on ebay that is selling CF roof cover from Hong Kong can custom make one in 1x1 weave if you want.

Also, for the real deal, you can always call up CA Automotive in the UK and order one of their pre-preg carbon roof with sunroof cutout. It'll be pimp to have a functional sunroof and a real pre-preg carbon roof in place of the steel roof. It weighs about 5kgs, which is 11lbs per CA.

I heard vorsteiner might me coming out with a replacement carbon fiber roof for people with sunroofs. Just like they did with the e46.

Thing is ive read BMW uses some special glue and adhesion process to put on the carbon fiber roof and i wouldnt really want to mess with that. Its one of those things once you break the seal it will never be the same again.

Thats the only thing i wish my car came with from the factory was a carbon fiber roof. But it had everything else i wanted so. I thought about just getting an OEM carbon roof from BMW but im sure thats like 7,000$

That's a black vinyl covering, right? This is a real carbon roof cover that installs in minutes with 3M tape.

After going through several Vorsteiner parts, I have no interest in going through with another Vorsteiner product that only fit 95%. I'm working with CA Automotive and see what we can come up with in terms of a real pre-preg dry carbon roof with cutout for the sunroof.

My car didn't come with a carbon roof either, but has everything else that I want, so I can live with that, at least for now. The process of swapping the roof is relatively simple. The process will involve removing the front and back windshield, the interior headliner, removal of the sunroof, drilling out the welds of the steel roof, and installing the new carbon roof with the BMW adhesive and curing it overnight in a warm paint booth, and put everything back together. The OEM roof is about 2 grand wholesale. I think the CA roof is about 1300 Pounds san VAT. Figure another ~1-2K for labor and parts.

HMM.... interesting thats not as bad as I thought... can you get the OEM carbon roof at resale? I may be interested in the CA one too....

I would think a reputable body shop can do a roof swap.

Yes, you can order it from Tischer no problem. Try to PM autocouture. He did a full OEM swap by himself, so he knows all the ins and outs of the swap. A competent BMW body shop should be able to do it no problem. My guy had done a multitude of roof swaps (Vorsteiner) on the E46 M3s and they are still running around fine.

A few years back I saw someone who put matte black vinyl on a sepang bronze z4 M coupe. It was on the hood bulge and down the notch on the roof. I have to say it looked really good.
