Got dusted by a soccer mom SUV
So I pull up next to the previous gen ML63 AMG today at a red light. We take off normally and I shift into second at around 3k rpm and that's when the ML decided to go WOT out of nowhere. I also went WOT but obviously not in the right power band and the ML got a car or two length's jump on me and I couldn't catch up to it so I decided to just back off after hitting the redline in 2nd.
All I could do was laugh and even though I was left in the dust it still made me smile. The sheer acceleration of that vehicle just made my jaw drop, and of course the sweet exhaust note that came out of those quad tips matched the brute force of the car. It was also cool that the owner actually has some fun in a car like that instead of just driving it like a ML350. Anyone know how much power these things are putting down? I had no idea these cars were that fast... Here's a pic for reference:

These ///AMG things putting "525 HP" down , and they have monster torque !
An optional ///AMG Performance Package cranks up the boost from 14.0 to 18.8 psi, resulting in 550 ponies and 560 lb-ft of twist. So in straights we have no chance when stock , but in cornering we are the winner .

Those AMG SUVs are no joke! Can easily hang with most cars these days, and I'll never forget when a friend's mom owned an R63 (soccer minivan looking thing that had a naturally aspirated C63 V8 in it)...so badass!

Anyways, I would rather have a X5M than the ML63 but I've always wanted an X5. Maybe I can get one to compliment the M3 in the future.

OP, absolutely no shame in losing to these crazy SUV's, they're fast. I know the new X5M would blow the doors off my catless E92. I really enjoyed driving one and definitely wouldn't mind one in the fleet.

anything can happen on the street ha!
To be honest and fearing pushback from the anti-street racing members I actually raced/played with one once at a stoplight because the driver was some teen aged kid prob in mommy's AMG who wanted to see if it could keep up from a dig with my 911. I prob only made it up to 50mph but still was like 5-6 cars ahead by that point. I shouldn't have played along but it was desolate nothing else around so no harm. Shame on me. Longboarder < puts himself in timeout.

Street Racing is the spice of life. It's fun, but don't be a dick.
With that said, I've taken out the V8 6.3's, but those twin turbo's are a whole different story. I had to dig this up from the old E36 days... "You would have had em' in the twisties!" |
