Driving with no shoes - just socks in my ZCP w/6MT = awesome !
I tried driving with no shoes - just socks. I like to have the smoothest and most proper shift possible. So as an experiment I took my dress shoes off while going to work the other day. And tried driving just wearing my socks
I could feel so much more of the M3 clutch let-out play, and although the throttle is of course drive by wire - I swear it felt like the throttle actuators were so smooth in their deployment of opening the butterflies of each throttle body. Might be weird to some - don't care....from now on always driving either with my socks on or barefoot. I found I could shift faster, tap the throttle in power mode and 'blip' the gas just a tad enough to match a corresponding shift..

It's probably a similar sensation to not wearing a rubber.

I've noticed this as well. It's an interesting thought to notice how much your shoes play in shifting (6mt, that is). I've noticed differences when wearing regular running shoes (lightweight flats), sperrys, dress loafers, and cowboy boots. The heavier the shoe the worse my shifts hahaha

I actually had a separate pair of "driving shoes" when I had my first car, a nice 5 spd civic. I went with these nearly soleless flat running shoes and I swore it helped me drive better. Dress shoes, as a member noted above, kind of make it feel like you're not getting the full experience.

agreed, if you want to feel the feedback of the clutch and all the mechanical components better, go with a thinner sole and narrow shoe.
When I first learned to drive a MT back in my prior car, I exclusively drove with the same pair of shoes. I found out that driving with dress shoes or other thick soled or fat toed shoes gets a bit sloppy driving a performance MT. Today, my prefer shoe are Pumas. They are perfect as they have thin rubber or grippy soles and are narrow. Many also have heel padding as well.

this is why i wear lambskin shoes.
So if driving barefoot for a MT driver is akin to going without rubber, what do DCT drivers do to increase wang sensation?

P.S.: This is where the haters are supposed to jump in and utter: "DCT drivers have no wang", so hopefully we are now mature enough not to start another one of THOSE threads. Where is Sunsweet when you need him? |

Us DCT guys like to turn off DSC and set the shift speed up that one last level. Gives a nice firm feeling, kinda like going bareback.

Strictly speaking, DCT guys only have one stick in the car when their ladies are on board, so there's more opportunity for cabin lovin with fewer obstacles to get the job done, specifically when driving. If ya'll follow.

Nice! I do this too in the summer when I go out in flip flops. I do barefoot though and it's totally different, have to sit slightly closer and can really feel the point of grab
