Sintered backing that will deform much more easily over time. Dinan has an example of ACL bearings after 30000 miles which could not retain shape and -- according to Steve Dinan -- literally fell out of the rod big end when the cap was removed. Also, the bronze barrier between sintered backing and upper layers tends to bake and cause the upper layers to delaminate over time.

Helmsman there is a white paper published regarding BEs measurements and work on clearance. It lists various manufacturers claimed clearance vs measurements and even talks about the shape of the bearings when bolted in place if I recall correctly. It has been a few years since I saw it but I found it in a google search.

According to the BE Wiki page:
BE Bearings (Version-2): SP1527F Introduction: February, 2022 Not necessarily. Spec changes are occasionally made. The original V1 shells were tweaked four times to fine tune the thicknesses. The V2 shell has been tweaked once already. However, no updated measurements are available as the measuring equipment is packed away for now. |

Helmsman (tagged, seeing as you have turned off thread notification ).
Yes it is, from their page - http://wiki.rcollins.org/core/index....-2.29:_SP1527F Bearing clearance specification. For v1 bearings :- Nominal Rod Bearing Clearance 0.0597 mm 0.00235 inch For v2 bearings :- Nominal Rod Bearing Clearance 0.0681 mm 0.00268 inch ************************* Apologies to the op for keep talking about rival bearings, but at least you're getting your thread bumped up more often!

The difference between v1 and v2 nominal clearance is 0.00033” which, although it’s now a larger clearance, is pretty small change practically speaking. However, I am curious why they released a v2 because I have BE v1 rod bearings installed.

On (I think) their main website, they describe new stronger materials being used for the v2 bearing.

Hum…I wonder why they changed to a stronger material(s) with v2 bearings? What was wrong with v1 material(s)? Have had v1 bearings installed since 2018 and as far as I know there’s no unseen bearing issues.
