If the Spotify app supports sending audio over Bluetooth, I don't see why it wouldn't. Whether track skipping and browsing worked over Bluetooth would depend on the app.

Should. All that's required from the car is USB and aux inputs with support for controlling an iPod.

Y cables can be had on eBay, Amazon, etc. BMW has a branded official one, but it's a standard thing. Here's a link to one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003P6DGMK

Your car should have come with it if it's pre-2011.5 though. And if it's post-2011.5 and has iDrive, you should have Combox.
Just to keep a clean record here. The combox was actually an option available on 2011.75 cars. Yes, there are 2011s, 2011.5s, and 2011.75s.

You'll know you have a 2011 and not a 2011.5 if the iDrive returns a "device not supported" message when you connect your phone via an Apple cable.

For this to work, you simply need the BMW Y Cable (or similar) and OP's product. I'm in.

I got this tip from an Aston Martin board, this little device plugs into the BMW iPod Y cable in your glovebox and turns your pre-2011.5 M3 into a full-fledged audio A2DP system. You get full playlist access, track names, progress bars, etc.. on your nag screen with iDrive integration. It is exactly like plugging your iPhone into the car but without having to do so. Works beautifully and simply.

BTW - no affiliation with the company, just a happy customer who has two of these things now.
Thanks for posting this! I just ordered mine.

Interesting, I wonder how current that is. AVRCP 1.4 was built into stock Android 4.3, which should allow playlist browsing. But given that handset manufacturers still use their own Android builds, maybe some of them are still behind. Or maybe the vendor would rather not maintain an exhaustive matrix of handsets and software versions showing which handset+software combo supports what and thus resorted to the least common denominator answer.

Received mine today. Works like a charm!!!

I cannot detect any difference in Audio quality vs having my phone hard wired.

Haven't been able to get artwork up, but I don't use iTunes -- only Spotify. Artist names, tracks, length, etc. all display. I'm able to control directly from the steering wheel as well.

No issues switching between incoming/outgoing calls. Music continues play as soon as call ends.

Great find!

Got mine today and works great. I went back out to the car several hours later and noticed that the blue light on the unit was still "on" in the blinking mode. Will this cause any battery drain? My car will sit for several days this coming weekend and was wondering if I should unplug it.

Hmm... I had not noticed that the thing stays powered when the car is off. I had assumed that the USB port in the center console is switched with the ignition. I will take a look at it later.

In my case, I am not too worried for my M3 since it gets driven almost daily but I have the same Tune2Air in my Aston and I only drive it a few times a week with occasional longer periods of inactivity.

I received mine today and seem to be having an issue. It shows as connected via USB and will play music. However, it is not showing track into or allowing me to control via the steering wheel controls. My car is a 2011.00 w/ 6FL. I am using the BMW y-cable. And my phone is an iPhone 5S (software 7.0). I have b/t connected both to the car and the Tune2Air. I tried this with Pandora, Spotify, and itunes radio. None worked beyond just streaming music.

Anyone know what I am doing wrong? Possible I just have a bad unit?

Try reseting the device (unplugging and replugging it). It definitely has an initialization/bootup period the first time to transmit all of the file system/playlist info from your phone to the device. The first time I used it, it did exactly what you are describing for 2-3 minutes and eventually reset from just "external device" to "Rudy's iPhone".

Thanks. I'll try again today. I let it play on my drive home yesterday which is about 45 minutes. I also checked the firmware and it appears to be up to date with 3.2.2 which is newer than the version available on their website.

So I tested with another iPhone 5s and it worked perfect. But mine still isn't working right. I reset the settings and I updated to iOS 7.1. But I still have the same issues with iTunes Radio, pandora and spotlify.

Do a phone hard reset then repair back to both car and viseeo. That should fix it...

did a regular restart. did a hard restart. did a reset of all settings. unpaired all b/t connections, and then repaired only to tune2air.

another member told me they had the same type of problem and were able to get Apple to replace their phone, which solved the problem. Guess that's the next thing for me to try since I know the tune2air is working.

+1. I'm up and running in the same condition as the above.

The forums needs more of this stuff. Great work OP. What combox retrofit?

Problem Solved! Apple tech was super helpful. Hope this info helps others with trouble.

In order to get the track info to show and have the steering wheel controls work, there must be at least one song downloaded on the iPhone. For whatever, reason, this won't function if there is no music on the iPhone. As soon as I downloaded a song from iTunes, the Tune2Air started working perfectly.
