I would have bought an F8X M3/4 IF they had put the 4.4 litre twin turbo v8 in it hands down. I can't stand the motor that they put in it.

Having said that, I would love to add and E90 M3 as a stablemate to my E46 M3 down the road. If I were to do something new off the current M lineup, I would probably take an M2 over the M4. It may not perform as well as the M4, but overall the car just appeals to me more. |

I've been saying this for years: at the end of the day, it's about the intangibles.

It's pretty awesome how light the F8X is compared to its competitors! |

Only adds about 50 lbs but you'd be able to put it further behind the axle to keep weight distribution similar. Also while the s63 doesn't sound amazing it does at least sound interesting which the s55 struggles with

I always thought the F8X cars were great cars but if upgrading meant losing my E90 I just couldn?t stomach it. If I could would do an M2 and keep my E90.

I've driven the M2 on track and have one at home although it isn't mine. The engine is even worse than the S55 as it's a tuned N55. It weighs as much as a M4. No CF roof, no M seats, no M hood... and yes, no M mirrors either. Why exactly should I like this? Other than the cute proportions I see zero allure in the M2. Same story as the 1M Coupe by the way |

Gave an '18 M3 ZCP with 6mt a test drive while at the dealer getting my airbag done today. Came with the thought, "It's nice, it's just nice". Reminded of the 340i I test drove, which I came away with the same thoughts. Steering was just fine, wasn't anywhere near as bad as people make it, but nothing special. The engine was quick, sounded awesome when you fired it up (or at least loud), but only sounded fine everywhere else. Didn't really encourage you to run it out, just use the torque and get to the speed you want. Just like a 335i. Seats and seating position was excellent though, far superior to the E92. It came down to it being good, but nothing special. Like having my previous 335i pumped up and its flaws ironed out. Unlike the E92 where I got out thinking, "I got to get one of these".
Hopped back into my E92, felt like I was in the right place. |

I can understand a M4 owner saying an M2 isn't fast... But a M2 is just as fast as an E92 M3. Faster if you go mod for mod.

I'de rather have an SC E92 than a bolt on M2. Probably 25k cheaper and definitely faster. Lastly and my biggest gripe about the M2 is the interior. Its just awful IMO. My X1 has the same leather. |

Maybe I just need more seat time in the M4 to fully understand. I guess all that toque gets old quick.

The other down side IMO is the steering feel. Its numb so its really hard to tell when you're at the limit even tho I probably couldn't get there. |

Regarding the speed of the F8x vs E9x, it is noticeably quicker. But side by side, the F8x has no sensation of speed behind it because of the torque. It felt like the typical turbo point and squirt driving style, so you end up going stupid fast and don't even know it. The E9x is very obvious because of the V8 you have to wring out, and it gives you the full sensation and noise behind the speed.
Kind of like Clarkson's comments on an Aston, "You think, "I'm going a million!", then you look down and go, "oh"." |

Whenever this is brought up (especially if brought up on the F87 boards), we are told by M2 fanboys "you're missing the point", "oh, look, more M-elitist talk", "it's supposed to be a back to basics car", etc. The thing is, people who blindly accept the cost-cutting are the ones missing the point. Even the M-cars of lore in their fantasy-nostalgia filled world were built with the best materials and with the best available features. Sure it may seem petty to complain about seats and exterior mirrors when they don't objectively affect the driving experience, but owning an M-car is about the entire experience: not only how it makes you feel while you drive it, but how it makes you feel owning it, sitting in it, washing it, looking at it. I absolutely love the little details like carbon-leather trim and M-aerodynamic mirrors. I absolutely love when i'm driving at night and catch a glimpse of the illuminated 6MT shift knob. When I got my first M-car (E46 M3), it was these little things that gave me a sense that M-cars are about performance AND quality (vs. a car that's only focused on performance like a Mitsubishi Evo). The trend continued with the E9x, built & crafted with passion where every detail was touched-on without being ostentatious. It's the little things that when you're stuck in traffic, or taking photos of your car, or washing it on a Sunday afternoon, that you notice the details and really appreciate and think, "this is a special car".

The E46M may be ancient, but you got a domed hood, special mirrors, special rear view mirror, beautiful seats. E9X made us expect CF roofs in M cars, indeed the new M5 even has one! I owned two 330Ci's prior to the E46M3 and it was incredible to see the attention to detail BMW had with the M3, way nicer details than the regular 330Ci. The 1M and M2 so far have been 'tuned' engines with totally regular interiors. Maybe I could warm up to an S55, but an N55? No way in hell. |
