Dealer servicing
Had my first service for my e93 m3 out of service warranty and got a bill for $1.6k for engine oil, oil filter, vehicle check, spark plugs, service rear diff, gearbox oil. The car has only driven 14k kms and is a 2012.5 model.
Should I be going to independents? If so, any in the inner west/west sydney area? Since there are no logbook, how I would I show service history to the next owner? I can get a service history printout from the dealer but what about independents? Are they able to hand conditional based servicing since there is no maintenance schedule in the owner's manual either?

If you are planning on keeping the car for a longer period you can consider doing basic servicing yourself. You could do an oil and filter change for very little ie Castrol edge 10w60 from super cheap auto and the filter kit from the dealer and fairly basic tools. The diy vids are very good. You won't get a stamp in your log book though.

Seems a bit high, but they charge a lot for their branded oils. The second post $ looks about right.
Interesting, I don't think Liquimoly engine oil is "approved" for these cars. Not that it probably matters, but dealers can play hardball if you ever have problems down the track. Liquimoly are the OEM for a lot of the other oils though, I think diff is one of them. Castrol from Super Cheap isn't right either, I wouldn't use that. Castrol edge TWS is sold by the dealer or distributors like M3World. A few people are also using Penrite, although I think the official oil used by BMW is now Shell brand. |

So what's wrong about Castrol Edge 10w-60 from Supercheap. My understanding was that TWS didn't really differ and was more a brand thing which enable the dealers to rip off innocent customers... :

I personally run Penrite, but I've tried TWS and Redline. I run the penrite (instead of TWS) due to my engine work and physically knowing my bearing tolerances. I use the Penrite racing 15 15w50 and replace it twice a year and it's 90% track miles. It's specs are funny and don't present as a 15 weight. I know some stock guys at the track & road are using Penrite premium 5w50, so I'm sure it's not a big deal |
