the lifestory of an M3...

Hey bimmer peeps!

Just came into partial ownership of an m3. Well my dad wanted a 1M and I saved up for a 335i so instead of two cars we got one with the best of both worlds We bought the car used from a dealership although it only had 2.8k on the clock when we bought it..now sitting at 3.1k

I used to own a Honda Integra Type S which was heavily worked and I tracked it quite often (build thread)

DC5 by Prash Imaging, on Flickr

As you can guess moving to the m3 is a huge step up..I love the combo of ultimate luxury but sportiness when u need it.

Some of the pros and cons I have experienced:
Pros.
Love the double clutch tranny (so smooth and quick and epic throttle blips on downshifts)
The S65 4L V8 revving to 8.6k (one of the best M engines ever)
fun in the sun driving with the hardtop down
so comfy for when ur stuck on parra rd but push the M button and the car transforms

Cons
Its so wide that Im petrified driving on parra rd
horrible fuel econ (I get 20L/100km)
Weighs 1.8 tonnes (although this is not noticeable in M mode)
Has way too many features that it takes forever to learn what everything does)

Specs:
2012 E93 Jerez Black M3 D-CT
Individual audio
CF interior trim
19" rims
(not sure what is else on the car is an option or standard)

Mods:
Lux h8 v3 (thanks to BMR)

Mods planned:
Plastip wheels, grill and gills to satin black
Gintani sport valved exhaust in ceramic black
Arkym CF front lip and rear diffuser
BBM LM diamond black w/ polished dish (in a couple of yrs as I need to save up lol)

Pics of said car:

I actually havent taken any pics yet lol..(will do soon and post them up)

the following happened a couple of weeks ago:

So at the the end of the working week last night I thought what better than to go for a cruise on a friday night. Picked up a mate at midnight, put the top down (it was a nice warm 26 deg so it was perfect for it) and set off. Our aim for the night was to not use the gps until we truly and absolutely got lost. Starting from Strathfield, headed up to lane cove, lane cove tunnel (may have gotten a bit naughty in here ), north sydney, harbour tunnel, kings cross, back up the bridge (since we missed it the first time), back down the bridge (lol), through the city, anzac bridge, victoria road, down centenary drive all the way past RNP (didnt go in), turned around headed to brighton le-sands and then back home at 4am . It felt so good with the top down, letting the m3 stretch its legs and hear the v8 sing ..this was exactly what i wanted the car for and i think what it was made to do. Honestly it didnt feel so long as its just so comfy and it just ate up the road without us knowing it (we did get lost quite a bit..ending up on dead ends etc)..My mate took pics and vids so ill post them up once i get them. The car is now sitting in the garage with the fuel warning light on..Dreading the to see what im gonna have to pay at the pumps..but honestly I couldnt think of a better start to the weekend!

Vids from the cruise as promised (excuse the wind, our excited squeaky voices and my horrible taste in music)

here , here & here

Oh before anyone condemns me for speeding. The tunnel has a limit of 80 and trust me didn't go past it. Was using part throttle and shifting up at 5.5k as the gearbox hasn't been broken in yet. We just kept slowing down to 20 then back up to 80. So basically first second third then back down to first

Also applied the leather and interior plastic goodies. I love the matte look the plastic protectant gives..looks so much classier than the cheaper plastic protectants that come out all glossy. You can actually feel the difference so its good to know that there is a layer there. Also cleaned out the leather with the leather brush (removing minor scuffs) and applied the leather milk. Then applied the elephant fat by hand ( this felt good to areas of the leather that will get worn out the most (edges of seats, headrests and steering wheel).

I got the car opti-coated on saturday by Frank from brightshine detailing . He is a genuine top bloke and its clear to see that detailing cars is his passion. He gave me the best deal of all the other detailers I tried. Started of by foaming the car and giving it a good wash. He then machine polished the hood to remove holograms and light swirls. He recommended a slight paint correction in about a yr or so. He then applied the opt-coat to the paint, glass and lights. Didnt bother with the wheels as I will be plasti-dipping them soon. Since BMW uses a porous paint finish aka orange peel he used a lot more product than an average car would. Also my fenders are made from plastic (weight saving) so they are more absorbent than metal. I was then asking him about wax options and he just gave me a free pot of Victoria concours red wax (70 rrp). He recommended using soft concours grade waxes as they will give that deep wet look that I desire vs a hard wax that will offer more protections at the expense of shine since I already have opti-coat. The wax has to be stored in the fridge and applied by hand (first time doing this) I also cleaned my wheels using the wolf wheel cleaner with nano-coating and have never seen any of my wheels look this shiny.

Applied two coats of victoria concours red wax by hand yday. Car is so shiny and yes theres not pics yet :P...I highly recommend that wax if u can justify it..applying it by hand allows u lay on a very thin coat that is easy to buff even if u leave it for >30mins. The car has a very deep wet look atm. Also ordered and fixed my first mod. lux h8 v3 LED halo upgrade from BMRAutowerkes

yep took me an hour or so (as opposed to 15mins to replace a light in a jdm car )..but once i figure out how to do one the other one was pretty simple.

Welcome to the /// family. It's great to see people embracing BMWs and especially the ///3. I am sure people will be trying to wipe that grin off your face every time you drive. Congratulations to your family on a great choice
