Many questions DCT

Help me understand this car please.I hope this will help others understand things better also. I know I wrote alot but it will help many.

1- The Servotronic what is this, 2 settings normal and sport ?

2- Power- normal, sport, sport plus explain this please.

3-DSC ,off,on M Dynamic mode, what is this? I know we have DSC that we hold for 2 seconds and traction control is off,is this the same as on,off M Dynamic mode,im lost.

4- Drive logic, D 1-5, S 1-5 not sure what this is for I am not sure I feel any difference or what it is for.

5-I know we have D as it up shifts for you but downshifts very easy, then we have M 1-7 which is only way I have driven this car with paddles and gear shift. I can not figure out sport mode where it shift very aggressive up and down shifts.

Ah as I was writing this maybe I answered 1 of my own questions the first question as I was writing and reading , for auto aggressive driving aggressive up and downshifting do you just put it in drive and set servotronic to sport. Then for regular driving for wife just set it to normal.

6- Shift lights why does it say shift lights on,off ,unchanged and not just on /off.

7-The M button will set all the above to my remote if I am correct.

Thanks Vic

Hey Vic,

You should spend 10-15 minutes with your owner's manual, as it answers all of your questions above with the exception of #6.

Regarding question 6. A lot of my M Drive settings also say "unchanged" as an option. This happened immediately after I went in for a DCT reflash, so I assume it's simply a side effect of updating the software. Did you have your car reflashed recently?

I read to manual but it don't explain things too well. My car is a week old 2011.5. The shift lights is m least worry. BTW I think the manual sucks,it could explain things better.

funny, I've read the owner's manual at least 3x already and know for a fact all these q's can and have been answered by reading the manual. Did you read the supplemental M3 w/ DCT manual? Can't wait til i take delivery of my car...

Most of them find that it's a little more pixelated when you keep the glasses on.

As for the reluctance of the prey to succumb to its predator, we must credit Clive Sanders with the breakthroughs needed to see just how enigmatic we've all become, and just how quirky needlepoint-rescue can manifest itself. Only the rather serene village of Landau can release the mysteries of this finely crafted and oft-missed clerical remark.

There's a few different spacial techniques. The first involves the wisdom of the elderberry. The second centers itself around keeping abreast of mild toxicity.

Thanks for the great explanations. This saves me from reading the manual again.

In all fairness, the Power button is not really explained anywhere in the manuals, except on the level of the Easy button.

Sport program on page 61- push selector lever toward left from from position D, the sport program is activated, the engaged gear s1 us displayed in instrument cluster, the only thing my instruments cluster reads is D 1-7 or M1-7, S has not come up in my cluster.

The power button gives you different throttle response, WOW I thought it was like a nitrous button . The manual explained that real well. Sport button the en gine reacts more spontaneous to accelerator pedal almost sounds like the power button but adds to quicker gear changes.

Vic,
You bought your car from a dealership, you spent 60 to 70k on this car. Your salesperson should have gone over all these features, if he dident you need to call him and set up an appointment, he or she should be able to go over all this stuff, if he has no idea then you need to talk to the sales manager, and find somebody there to explain to you. As a good sales consultant this would never happen with my customers.

I think it refers to the fact that he ordered his car after the september changes. I ordered mine in July as a 2011 then the changes happened, so I guess the .5 is with the new changes (manual seats, 2 tone leather, blahblahblah)

I could answer 6 of your 7 questions the first day I got my car even before reading the manual. Either your sales guy was an idiot or you are. He should've explained all of this to you.

1. Servotronic adjusts the amount of steering assistance to suit the current speed, enhancing driver comfort by lowering the effort needed to turn the steering wheel. (Too lazy to type so I just googled this.)

2. Power.

Normal - Do I really need to explain this?

Sport - increased throttle response.

Sport plus - throttle becomes even more sensitive than sport mode.

3. DSC

DSC off - Traction control off.

DSC on - Traction control on.

M Dynamic Mode - Traction control is on but allows for a bit of slip.

4. D 1-5 - Automatic mode, D1 will give you the smoothest shifts and it will shift at lower RPM, D5 will give you the most aggressive shifts and will shift at higher RPM.

S 1-5 - Manual mode, S1 is smoothest shifts, S5 is most aggressive shifts.

5. I have no idea what you are asking.

6. Shift lights on/off/unchanged - Unchanged just means it is set to whatever was selected before, either on or off.

7. The M button allows you to activate M Drive with the push of a button. You can configure the settings for M Drive (shift speed, throttle sensitivity, servotronic, DSC etc..) with your iDrive.
