Talking New Car, New Leather Smell...how to replicate?

When I first got my car it smelled new and the interior felt new, how to I maintain or replicate that. I read that BMW has a leather cleaner spray but will that retain the distinct smell, feeling and look?...any help would be appreciated. I have the extended black noviollo leather, it currently looks new and feels amazing wonderful and I want to maintain that as long as possible.

Also, I like products I can pick up in person and avoid ordering online..when it comes to detailing I'm a noob so it could be that I haven't found the right stores but most of the Autozone, Advance-Auto places sell the entry level stuff...and I'm guessing the stuff I need isn't really entry leve.

Thanks.

I've only had mine since January '11, but I've tried the BMW leather kit (its a single cleaner/conditioner liquid with foam applicator and buffing towels) and Zaino combo (Z-9 cleaner with the Zaino Z-10 conditioner). I used the BMW kit as soon as I got delivery, and I've tried the Zaino combo just recently. I think both are light smelling and after drying I thought the full smell of the original leather came back. Going forward I'll probably stick with the Zaino combo, since I think having the separate cleaner / conditioner is far superior; otherwise you are just rubbing in any dirt into the leather. I use a leather brush with the cleaner, and microfiber pad to apply the conditioner.

Yea, new car smell is such a mix of everything.. but in a car with leather, its such a big part of that overall smell, maintaining that seems like it might go a long way keeping the new car smell as long as possible..

One thing that kills new car smell is food. Fast food or take out or bringing home leftovers from a restaurant. That greasy food smell just embeds itself into the fibers of everything.

The new car smell is benzene in the adhesive and its a carcinogen, Its know to cause cancer.
So that new car smell that is so awesome is acually bad for you.

Based on trying most of the popular leather care products I'd say that the product that smells the most like leather is Griot's Garage Leather Care.

The product that works the best at cleaning and conditioning is Leatherique.

Keeping your interior clean and protected will most likely be the best bet for maintaining that new car smell and is, imo, a better way to go than using a scented product to try and replicate it.

Benzene is only one of many components that contributed to that "new car smell" of days gone by. The intensity of the smell, the volatile compounds and the ones that are known carcinogens have largely been greened or regulated away. I think the push for making the inside of new cars substantially safer was even stronger in Europe than in the US.
