M5board video - E92 M3 vs. 997 C2S
The one we have been waiting for....
http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/sho...d.php?t=116526 Looks like Gustav is still posting....go over there and demand he put it up. Doesn't look too good for the VW Beetle cum "modern" sportscar

It's a shame the start seems to be missed for the video, though the result speaks volumes, it wasn't even that tight a match.
I am more and more looking forward to ownership. |

Isn't the C2S 355hp? Not very surprising here.

The next update on the 2009 Carrera would be a direct injection and DSG gearbox. That will add around 20hp and faster gear shifts. I think that would really come close to an m3's performance.

Predicted 385-390 horsepower with a PDK gearbox. Id bet it would probably beat the M3 DCT, or at least stay with it.

Yeh ....the DCT on the M3 is going to be awesome bro. Double clutch is the future.
Do I dare say it will be better then DSG(PDK)......only time will tell! Quote:
Honestly, I hope Carrera is faster then a M3.The reason behind is that, I think the Carrera is a high end car and I wouldnt like loosing to a car that is 20k cheaper then mine. Carrera is a performance oriented car and it just has to be fast in straight and curves.

It's an in-gear acceleration test from 50km/h to 260km/h, not a standing start comparison.
Stock 997 C2S runs the E92 M3 very close up to 160km/h. Beyond 160km/h the M3's greater HP has the advantage. Not a surprising result. |

I would have thought it would have been closer as well. I would expect the M to run harder on top, but this proves the M to be very fast. I hope that these are equally strong/ good examples. If this is truely indicative of the disparity between these two cars, then kudos +1 to BMW. I just do not know that I truely believe it. The numerous road tests do not support this kind of whipping. Nothing against Gustav, but it does seem that he will find an M that will beat just about everything. We will have to see what PAG gives the 911S. After seeing this video, anything shy of a 30 HP bump with DI will fall short. M-DCT and PDK will be a wash. |

This is a bit surprising. I wouldn't have thought that the 911S would have been owned in this respect. It's not just a matter of what happens above 100mph, they seem to be going fairly slow at the beginning although it is hard to tell. Why didn't they just show the rolling start?
