Exhaust owners: Feedback wanted on Akrapovic, Vorsteiner, Meisterschaft
I would be very interested in hearing from owners of these exhaust systems on their E90/92/93 M3s:
These are the ones I have either heard in person or heard enough videos where I feel I have a decent sense of the sound. (I like the low end. Many of the others sound like they have stuffy noses, I don't know how else to put it.) I've read the sticky thread and all the linked discussions on the different exhausts (and some on the dealers). I've looked at various dealer sites, talked to a couple. I've watched a ton of videos. I've read up on some of the dealer feedback. I'd love to hear from current owners on these questions:
Thanks! Last edited by llis; 05-25-2011 at 11:50 AM.. Reason: Adding BMW Performance Exhaust to the list |

Ilis, I now have the Akra rear section. I may do the spring drive in a couple weeks in case you want to hear it. I like it a lot, the construction is amazing, as is the weight. Sound is very bassy but not too loud. You hear it mostly at low RPM under heavy throttle, but at higher RPM it is drowned out by intake/engine sound. Pretty much a perfect exhaust for a DD, although it is pretty expensive for not a major increase in sound. Some people tie cost and loudness together, so if that is how you think about it you would be disappointed with the Akra (rear).
I bought mine used on the forum after 4k miles and have put on another 1500 or so. No issues at all, very happy. I haven't gone full evo (yet) because I didn't want to do a tune and don't like the idea of the Delet-r module Akra sells. Have a look at the reviews KitW and J08M3 have posted - they have had all of the above and do some nice comparing/contrasting of each.

- Installed just one month ago (4000 km drive & 120 laps at track) - Ordered directly from Slovenia - no problem and excellent service there - No problems so far after driving it - At first I was afraid of noise level, but the exhaust is just perfect - a bit louder than normal, but cannot be said "loud" at all when comparing to Lambo or Ferrari OEM sound. I really liked it after the first revs and still like it today. - I drive my car around 1000 km in a week and Akra works with no problem. Fully suitable for daily driving. In general Akra EVO is at it's best on track when pushing nice speed & revs. It makes E92 M3 to sound like SLS MB or equivalent car with 6-litre engine. Deeper, some kind of like refined sportscar sound. Noise level is not the first thing you pay your attention - Akra just sounds "different". I'd say that their promo video with BMW bike & M3 is very very close to real sound. Take the video as a reference. And finally: buy it now! I should have gone to Akra much earlier...my next cars will all have Akra later on if I sometime later on trade my M3.

Hopefully this will help
- Had the Meisterschaft GTS paired with Gintani Catless xpipe - Got the exhaust before my 1200 break in period and the xpipe shortie's after - Full - They knew it was me coming when i needed service done, bunch of the porters and SA's would gather around. But no problem as far as warranty goes. - Craftsmanship of the the mufflers and xpipe were great, it wasn't an Akra system or anything, but everything fit perfectly. - Oh man I couldn't stop smiling for days and days after i got it installed. - My m3 was my DD, It didn't bother me at all, my neighbors i know hated me in the morning esp. during the winter. - If you want loud this is the way to go. Ill post up some videos of mine and a friends Akra exhaust with gintani catless xpipe. Hope this will help out on you decision. Here's mine in Park At the drag, gears 1-4 with DCT Here's my buddies e92 with the Akra rear section and Gintani catless x, with mine for a comparison

When I first have the car back in Sept 2010, I've the Meisterschaft GT2 titanium + LX + SR + shadow black tips pipes installed and it was perfect. Super loud and the whole neighborhood who you are back home from work!
The power came after 5000 rpm when you feel the exhaust really working. A true racing style.... the disadvantage is all the noise complaint which forced me to change to Akrapovic Evo titanium full system (now). As mention above, the Akrapovic Evo titanium is a very deep bassy sound. The power kick in at a lower rpm compare to the Meisterschaft GT2, a sporty and a high class feel exhaust!! But for everyday drive in a M3, personally I will opt for the Akrapovic. I hope this help ;-) |

Here's a couple of the Akrapovic and BMW Performance systems we posted a while back: eas | e92 M3 Akrapovic Evolution Exhaust Driving Sound Clips eas | BMW Performance Inconel Exhaust Sound Clips - e92 M3 The Akrapovic system is complete from the headers to the tailpipe, not a fair comparison to the BMW Performance muffler - which is axleback only. Akrapovic is hands down the winner in Craftsmanship.

I want to thank everyone for the feedback so far. Right now I'm leaning heavily towards the Akra Evolution.

Hey buddy, for sure the Ak Evo full system. It is amazing sound & quality!! My wife can hear me driving down from miles but it is not an ear drum destroyer like the meisterschaft GT2!! Get one install and post a video up here to share with everyone!!

BMW Performance Exhaust
I notified my dealer who came in very close to Morrison's price. I find out tomorrow what the ETA is.
Thanks all for the feedback! I'll try to get some video of decent quality that captures the sound. |

I know you mentioned you have the Gintani catless xpipe (I'm guessing this xpipe replaces your cats)... I'm just curious if one can get the Meisterschaft but still leave their cats in place.
