Add me to the list of Blown Motors... unknown cause, but cylinder 6 doesnt hold pressure. Possible main bearing or fuel injector let go at 123K.

2011 e90 m3 [DCT]
I had the rod bearings done 2k miles ago and otherwise the car was maintained very well.

Without reading through 116 pages, has there been any progress with the class action lawsuit?

The lawsuit has it's own thread somewhere, last I looked it hadn't been updated in about 1-2yrs IIRC.

So , I can not post another link, because there is no other link .Mate , that's about it ....

FYI - Malek's car was also a main bearing failure per the link below:

Makes me wonder, how many of these LCI cars written up as rod bearing failures are actually main first failures but were never tore down fully? It seems pretty alarming that the LCI cars seem to be the only ones spinning mains/seizing without warning while NA.

deansbimmer has this been your experience with bearing failures on the 2011+ cars?

I've seen a couple dozen main failures but don't seem to think one is more pre-disposed to failure than the other. We see both fail.

Rod bearing failure can certainly be mis-diagnosed by an inexperienced wrencher but I doubt any experienced tech would overlook main bearing failure as the primary cause.

Are main bearing failures the inevitable doom for NA S65 with replaced rod bearings? Does such a failure toast the block for rebuild-ability? Or is there a preventative measure for main bearing failure?

The preventative maintenance involves about 3 days of shop labor and requires pulling the motor, removing the trans, and flipping it upside down to pull the bedplate. Deansbimmer did a main bearing guide a while ago. Pretty much no one does this as preventative maintenance due to the time/cost and the fact that relatively few engines have failed due to main bearings.

No idea but it just doesn't seem like a real "solution". I dont want to be worrying about my car all the time. Just me.

Funny! My car experience since I got into "non-American performance" has gone like this...

08 ISF ->08 E90 M->11 E92 M->15 F80 M->10 E92 M->16 F82 M->11 E92 M

My buddy brought his ISF out with us on an M mountain run a few years ago.. it was the only car that broke down. I'm sure an anomaly but still rather funny.

Man, registration or sales tax on all those transactions seems brutal for bouncing back and forth between effectively the same 2 cars.

In Georgia you only pay tax on the difference When I went from the F8x to the E9x tax was $0.
