Having come from an area which can have some really nasty fog, I have added fog lights to the majority of my vehicles which didn't come with them. The overall theory is that fog never reaches all the way to the ground. Fog lights properly placed (as low as you can mount them) and aimed properly can light up the road surface below the fog. As pointed out earlier, you don't use them all the time and they must be aimed correctly. Also, a proper setup will allow the fog lights to work WITHOUT the headlights.
Thank you for bringing back a 6 year old thread to tell us that.

What's tomorrow's lesson going to be, Mr. Wizard?

Woo, harsh welcome to the forum. I don't see a problem with bringing back old threads; the worst forums are the ones with little activity and nothing worth reading. Good to have new guys that can actually write a full paragraph (intelligently).

My comment was in jest. No harm intended. I just think it's funny that his opening post as a brand new member was responding to a thread from 6 1/2 years ago about fog lights.

Anyways, welcome to the forums.

aren't they use for mounting locations for license plates so you can further restrict air flow?

With daytime running lamps (mandatory in EU and Canada) there is too much light too high for fog lamps to be really useful.

We should be able to use the fog lamps in place of DRL's and with rear fog lamps turned on (these are not stock in Canada or the US but as users of this forum know these can be activated).
