My father has a 2012, and he got the notice today. He is not pleased at all, in part because he already has an Acura dealer provided rental after his RDX was recalled last week.
The BMW dealership here is offering $65 per day for an Enterprise rental until part are available. Unfortunately, that means parking the M3 during the best part of the year to drive one. A Chevy Trax is quite a step down. |

Not sure about that. But the car is out of warranty as of February, though it was sold by them. I am under the impression BMWNA is covering the cost, and the dealer is just coordinating. Acura also provided a rental for the RDX until they get the parts in.

The good news is, when the lots are full, the prices should be lower and the choices of color/options should be plentiful. I don't want to wait another year, but, may be forced to.

I got burned by this as well, my '13 e92m3 lease is up in 2 month and I wanted to buy. BMW said they will not sell and take the car.
I guess I will just have to wait for this thing to be over and then buy from the lots. |

At least make a deal with them to keep it for you on the dealer lot. Then make the deal when this is over.

Recall Notice
I received mine over the weekend.
However, the letter stated that the part is out of stock. And will be notified when it is available. Same thing happened with my Honda. The dealer never contacted me as to the parts availability. I had to call them. I'm sure that BMW will be the same. |

I know, right? So the lease contract has an "out" that allows them not to offer the car to the lessee at the residual value? Gotta read the fine print...

I called BMWNA today regarding how they determine "high risk", and the answer I got was that they calculate total exposure and consider both where the car is currently registered in and where it was sold.
Basically, CSR said: 1. if the car was sold in a humid area (as they determine the area) and is still registered in that area, then it has highest priority. 2. if the car was sold in a humid area but is now registered in a low-humidity area, it has a medium priority 3. If a car was sold in a low humidity area and is still registered in a low humidity area, it has the lowest priority. When asked how they discern cars in category #2, they weren't too specific, but said they consider estimated years in humid area vs low-humidity area to balance which car has a priority. So again, they may take past registration into consideration. My two cars for example: 1. 2008 M3: Years 2008-10 in low humid, cold climate. Years 2010-2013 in a high humid and hot climate, and then years 2014-2015 is again in a low humidity area = 4 years of high humidity exposure. 2. 2012 X5, years 2012-14 in a high humidity, hot climate. 2015-2016 in a low humidity climate = 3 year of high humidity exposure. My M3 and X5 would be similarily at risk. I got my initial letters for both cars on the same day.

I would be interested to know how fine their geographic breakdown of high humidity and low humidity areas is. Is it by state or county or some other method? For instance, I bought my M3 in Portland, Oregon. I would think that would be considered a high humidity area. However I don't live there. I live in Eastern Oregon, which is semi-arid desert. Low humidity. If they just lump all of Oregon together, then I would think I would be pretty high priority. But if they break it down with more geographic detail, then probably not so high priority. If they knew that my car lived in a semi-heated garage in the semi-arid desert most of it's life, I would be put on the lowest priority. Well, I'm not gonna sweat it. I suppose when it's my turn, they'll send me another letter, whenever that may be.

Glad I found and read this article. I was actually in a vehicle accident on my e90 335xi which deployed all my airbags but didn't fully deploy my driver side. I was T-boned at 50-60mph. Anywho I was shopping around for a e92 M3 and have been having difficulties finding them on dealer lots. Makes sense now and also I'm curious if I have a case against malfunctioned airbag deployment
