Used E92 for $41,900 on Autotrader
After searching on autotrader.com today I spotted a 2008 melbourne red coupe with 8,000 on the clock and an asking price of $41,900. It's listed as including the technology package.
Location is in Virginia Beach, VA. Only includes one pic and no VIN #. Its from a private seller. Do you guys think this is a BS listing? Or a sign of whats to come--considering the current state of the economy--in terms of the future used E92 M3 market? |

+1 at the BS - that type of depreciation usually occurs after a year or two...I understand it was previously owned and high miles and such but for 41.9k.........it's probably a 335i...

Go ahead, give the guy a call. The number listed is 434 444 4444; nothing odd about that.
I found a 2007 white GT3 today with 1401 miles at Manhattan Motor Cars for $71,000. That didn't work out like planned when I called. Last edited by devo; 03-31-2008 at 05:40 PM.. |

For the hell of it I just called the number and the person who answered said that I had the wrong number. I don't even think the person knew English.
Don't exactly know why someone would spend the $ to post a bogus add. Then again they are probably planning to rob the person they meet face-to-face with...Just a thought hope its not true.... |

Scam?
Its either a typo or most likely it is a common online car scam. Usually you will get a story about how the person is over seas, send a check as a deposit if you are purchasing. If you are the one selling they will send you a check often more than the value of the item being purchased and it will be a fake money order that will take some time to clear and you are held responsible. Oh but the good thing is that these guys always offer free shipping of the car and arrange for it for free!

Some crooks have gone a lot more Low Tech than the old "wire me money in good faith, etc." and have gotten a lot more dangerous. It's not uncommon to get a great deal on a car on CraigsList or the like, and have the guy tell you to meet him with a certified check, and $1,000 in cash because he accidentally scuffed the bumper last night and you can negotiate on the cost to fix it once you get there. (He doesn't want to scam you.) Then you show up and it's just an old fashioned robbery of your cash. There are other thieves who are even less clever who do "cash only" deals. Again, you show up and get a gun in your chest instead of the keys to a car. There is no easier way to get someone to come and meet you, to get robbed, than offering them a great deal on a car with some cash involved. This sounds like paranoia, but run a Google news search. My friend saw a picture of his own, custom, 911 Turbo listed for sale on Craigslist with his VIN and everything. Someone stole the info from an online registry and, let's just say, didn't have the best intentions for the would-be buyer. This happens more and more. Don't live in a hole, but use your head when going to meet a complete stranger for a large dollar business deal.

Sounds like a scam to me, email him and ask him for engine pics and VIN number so you can run carfax, if he doesnt reply or give you a BS reason why he cant get pics, then hes trying to steal someones money.

I just bought it... The guy told me to wire him $5K, which I did, and he would have it shipped to me... He told me I didn't have to pay the balance until after I had the car and title....

...send him money in an email as an attachment, tell him to print money from your email on his printer and ask him to send you an email back with the car as an attachment...
