MGM Grand - National Harbor

Has anyone checked out the new MGM at National Harbor? If so, what are your impressions? I haven't been over there yet, but plan on it soon. I do love the whole National Harbor area, but am worried about the traffic and the potential riff-raff that is associated with casinos.

Not bad. Large selection of food and restaurants; no buffet though (FAIL). Parking is free until a future date. Good place to attend a concert

I checked it out the other week. The traffic to the parking garage can get bumper to bumper. Took me about 15min once I got off the highway to find a parking spot. I'm not a gambler so I can't speak on the actually casino.

You can park at the National Harbor and take the shuttle ($5 for a day)

I have yet to visit just been by. My father inlaw lives in national harbor and goes a couple times a week.

That sounds like a better option.

The shuttle runs all day and most of the night. Goes the from the harbor to the outlets and to the MGM just making a loop. But you have to pay to park at the harbor.

lol...wish I could. But there are aspects of CA that DC can also never provide.

I remember visiting National Harbor just when it was built and it was just the two hotels and a few shops. I think I even picked up a nail on the tire driving through there with the construction.

Agreed. San Fran is one of my favorite cities. I hope you're supplementing your income by selling weed because it is expense to live there!

nah, honest living here, though I have thought about it briefly, not going to lie.

BTW, since they legalized medical here and completely legalized it in Colorado, the market is flooded with legal supply. The value and cost to grow makes it expensive to grow illegal small batches these days. In Colorado they use to average out to $2400 per lb and now sells for about $700 per lb.

It'll cost you a ton of electricity and water to cultivate enough to make it a sustainable full time business. You pretty much need to go legit and get commercial electric and water pricing to make it competitive.

I'm curious how the poker is at the MGM there? I don't gamble, but I do play poker.

I'm still amazed that Maryland (forgot name of local county/town) allowed gambling so close the metro area. MGM will pretty much kill the other Casinos like Charlestown and Maryland Live (not that they were great casinos to begin with.)

I'm a solidly profitable 5-10 & 10-25 NLH player. I can assure you that Maryland Live! was the probably the best NLH and Omaha action on the East Coast for the entire duration it was open; now that the MGM has opened, it was taken over that status in my opinion. I'm active duty military now so I don't play as much as I used to, but I did visit DC for Christmas and this was right around when MGM opened; the games were as sick as when Maryland Live! first opened up if you're familiar with the action during that time frame. I only played at the MGM for about a week in December, but the games were so good that all the 5-10 and 10-25 NLH regulars that I recognized from the Maryland Live! games were consistently getting 25-50 and 50-100 NLH games going multiple times throughout the week just due to the the ez action. There was very good high stakes mixed game action and Omaha action too, smaller stakes NLH seemed to be good as well with probably anywhere from 10 to 15 2-5 NLH tables going during peak hours.

I live on the West Coast now, but judging by the bravo app, MGM is still THE place to go for poker anywhere within 500 miles of the DMV area, if not the entire east coast.

Mohegan used to the East Coast's go-to.

MGM National probably has higher table limits, prohibitive to most normal visitors.

Used to work 15 mins from there in PG county and I'm still surprised they'd put it there. Riff-raff Central!

Living out here in Vegas now so casinos are the norm.

Good info! I'm not a cash game player and I don't play at the stakes you did when I did dabble in cash games. I like a good tourney now and then. Played a lot on line when it was legal and then again on WSOP.com in NV. It's just recreation for me, not a funding source.
