I’ve come from the F8x to the E92 :)

Hi folks. In 8 days time I pick up my 2012 M3 with the competition package. It’s a bitter sweet feeling as I know I’m going to love it, but parting with my 2018 M4CS which Ive had from new 2 years ago, is going to be hard.

I’ve always wanted the V8, but I’ll admit the move is for financial reasons too. I’ve afforded the CS but it’s taken more than I’d like out of my wages every month. This car came up 8 miles away from me in my local BMW dealers and I went to see it before it even got advertised. Well what can I say, I grinned and laughed on that test drive more than I’ve done in 2 years with the CS. What an engine, what a noise, ok you have to keep it on the boil but for a weekend toy that’s exactly what I need.

Looking forwards to making it my own and adding some eventuri goodies.

Couple of pics that I have so far.

Thanks guys! Looking forwards to making it my own with some subtle tweaks. One thing I can’t decide which route to take is the exhaust set-up, The MPE appeals due to being OEM, but seems a lot of money for little overall noise gains?!

Welcome Colin, that car looks sweet indeed!
Never tried the S55 but I'd assume you'll miss some grunt and power. Hopefully the S65' delivery and sound together with old fashion steering will make up for it. Looking forward to your comparion notes when you're there!

Cheers

nice car! i like my MPE but deffo wish it were louder. xpipe or test pipes will solve that but can create other issues.

Wow, certainly quite a few converts.

The E9X is a very special package that will always be appealing no matter how much power they get out of the modern turbo engines.

I have two E9X M3s and one F80 CS. The CS is the one to get out of the F8X generation but if I had to downsize to only two M cars I would keep the two E9Xs.

The mpe is very different sounding than oem. Loud? No. Different tone? Yes! It also shaves a bunch of weight off the rear compared to the oem can.

welcome to the light side
but
you're going to miss that turbo torque down low
as long as you know what to expect with the S65

try having the OEM muffler modded, 2 pipe, 4 pipe, or ACM method. from louder to loudest in that order. Should be much cheaper than new exhaust without drastically changing the tone, just how loud it is.

Coming from a bunch of turbo cars I sort of like this about the car, it makes me think before doing something immediately stupid. On a backroad it doesn't really change anything (once I'm on the boil I can just go go go), but if I want to drop the hammer because someone is annoying me in traffic it requires a little bit more thought for popping down a few gears vs smash the gas and ask questions later. Forces me to exercise more restraint than I previously used to.

Welcome!!

I too have had my share of turbo cars and while I do sometimes miss the kick in the pants, I really love the way the S65 sings and reacts to throttle inputs. 12:1 NA engine is just something special.

Enjoy the ride as it is a gorgeous example you picked up. Love the ZCP look on the white M3.

Cheers,

I've switched from some different exhaust setups throughout the years, but will have to say Dinan has been my favorite thus far. Highly recommend that setup.

Thanks all so much for the warm welcome. It is indeed Mineral white with Fox red, it doesn’t have the red console and dash but good comp packs seem thin on the ground in the UK, so with this being approved used with full warranty for a year I jumped on it.

It’s a DCT, which for me personally is the gearbox I’d want (sorry), just gotta love those downshifts and probably easier to keep it wound up, the ratios probably suit the engine better also?

Thanks for the exhaust suggestions, I will look into this Corsa system, haven’t heard of it myself, I’ve spent the last 2 days binge watching youtube exhaust vids. Another thing I can’t decide on is weather to fit the OEM carbon splitters or leave the front stock? Some days I like them with, other times I think keep it clean.

The Corsa has the most 'exotic' tone to it in my opinion. Many dislike the aesthetics of it and I tend to agree, but nothing some new tips can't fix.

I like the way the OEM splitters look on white, I don't on Space Grey for some reason - I opted for the OEM GTS rep lip from 360carbon over the splitters - didn't get it fully installed until last night so pictures are lacking. There is a group buy going on currently with more pictures in the thread if interested.
