The real dipsticks in my other cars are actually a bit of a pain in the ass to read bc they twist and turn so much that when you pull out the dipstick, there is oil all over the place (from the tube) and it can sometimes take a few tries to really get a clear read. A straight dipstick that isn't too long (i.e. like on airplane piston engines) would be ideal, but few cars have that.
I hear you, our FX is like that! Try putting it back in the dark without a flashlight, in that case, I will gladly take the e-dipstick all the time.

We know the thing is inaccurate and finicky. I never allow my oil to go a 1/4 below, but if it is showing a quart low, could it be even lower and contributing to the bearing issue and/or oil starvation?

Honestly, no true performance car should be without a dipstick...
It's not that bad, you just have to wait for it to warm up, and after you change the oil drive around mindlessly waiting for it to actually measure the amount of oil you have.

The older VQ motors were laughably difficult to read. Thankfully, my 2007 350Z had the HR motor with better dipstick placement, lol.

It's not THAT big of a deal to me, but my old routine was to check the oil whenever I washed the car and/or when I filled up with gas. For the last few weeks, I've been peeking at the "Vehicle Status" menu when I visit my parents house. The drive is long enough that it'll get a reading a couple blocks before I reach their house, lol.

Yep, '05 FX35, I have no idea what they were thinking - they should have just deleted it!

This one is so easy to check - you don't even open the hood!

Oil pressure is oil pressure. As long as the pump can suck it up it's all the same. I bet you could drive two or maybe even three quarts low without a problem but I would fill it when it asks.

YES! I had a 2003 350Z and the dipstick was completely useless. I'm sure the oil pan was somewhere in the rear of the car since the dipstick was like 11 ft long and made at least 5 turns in its journey to the oil pan. All I could ever tell was that there was 'some' oil in the car. No idea how much.

My friends with non HR 350Z's went through the same journey. It was like the fucking Hobbit trying to put the dip stick back.
