NT05's will grip regardless of heat cycles in my experience. Best bang for the buck. I just hope they update them soon. .

I will toss my vote in for the RE-11 bridgestones. I haven't run the 11A, but it's supposed to go to 11, so it must be better...
The RE-11's are awesome street tires and very competent track tires. They are forgiving of driver errors in slip angle and have a 'soft' recovery (very wide peak traction peak). I love 'em and have them on both M3's. I'd put 'em on the X5 if they came in the right size and load rating! Plus, you can get them at Costco.

Pilot Super sports are garbage tires and I don't know why people like them so much. I used to have them before going to AD08. Never again. They get very greasy and slippery after a few laps. And the sidewalls are too soft, so with a fat pig like the M3, the front tires totally rolled onto the sidewall in the corner. After a few track days I had large chunks of rubber torn off from the outer edge of the front tires. Ended up throwing them away with almost half the tread still left

I have r888's for my 997.2 Turbo S. No better tire for ultimate street/track grip. They hook even when cold. For a more tame car like my 600 HP M3, I daily drive with ZCPs and Michelin PSS, but for the track I have another set of ZCPs with NT05's. Very impressed with the NT05's. They are silent like the PSS, and have terrific cold grip like the PSS as well, but last much longer on the track. They don't break down and get greasy like the PSS and work lap after lap after lap.

Can't believe how lucky you are Surlynkid!!!!!! U got to run COTA again???? I'm sooooo jealous Texas Trifecta was amazing and I can't wait for next year. I was thinking of an alternative street tire to the R-S3. Although they are well priced, I go through quite a few of them every year. I thought the early "heat cycle out" issue was just me. I guess they are not woo cheap if I keep having to replace them. NT05 here I come. |

I joined all the facebook groups that track in the area so I can stay on top of COTA events. I was there with "Edgeaddicts" and the two day was expensive but I got a sweet deal as an instructor.
So far I think BMWCCA, PCA, Edgeaddict, Chinn Motorsports, Driver's Edge have events once a year there each. Apex Driving Academy is also working out a deal. For Street Biased, but decent track duty I like the AD08R above the others. And they come in decent selection of sizes if you're street rims happen to be 19." I was not a fan of the PSS, they don't like aggressive brake pads and they do get greasy quickly. Fortunately they are predictable so its not dangerous. |

How's the noise on the AD08R as they wear? Not that we get a lot of wet streets here other than the occasional broken sprinkler: so how do they do in the wet?

I like the RS3s from a cost perspective. It takes a lot of abuse to get them to fall off on dry grip. They are noisy, won't tolerate low temps and suck in cold/wet conditions.
I've had 6 sets of RS3s. 4 sets of 17s, they got better as the got balder and NEVER greased up. I had 2 sets of 18s, I wore them down to 3/32d's in 2 weekends and got greasy after about 15 min...marginally better than Dunlop Z1s. I think the 275/35R18 RS3s are not up to the same standard as the 17s for some reason. MPSS can't handle the heat and tend to get greasy. I'd like to try the Rivals and the RE-11s.

I'm set on trying the NT05 and Rivals as well. Saw NT05 at $220 on discount tire site vs $234 for the RS3. My main beef with RS3 is what you guys are already experiencing, inconsistency between 17 & 18 (I wonder if load rating has anything to do with it), recent change in version(V2 or whatever it's called) with quicker heat cycle. A little hard to keep up with, not so cheap if I have to keep throwing them out after 3 track days (unless I'm heading to udrift ). Time to give another set of street tire a try. First NT05, then Rivals for next set.

I've used MPSCs for both DD, and the track. The tires were good in the rain, too much grip for the streets once heated up, and the hands down quietest, and most comfortable tires I've ever experienced. If you've got the money to spend, then MPSCs aren't bad, but you won't get more than 5-7K miles off them, and once they get worn down, they get Super greasy on the streets, and track. At that point they are practically useless. I agree with everything else you said, but the comment about ride harshness, noise, and rain, were not my experiences on the street with this tire.

You didn't take good care of your AD08's. Proper Alignment, and inflation pressures are key for extracting long term use. Just my two cents. You might also want to try Nitto NT05s. They are cheaper than AD08s and perform similarly.

Oh believe me, I tried to track in the summer. Last year, I was at Buttonwillow in July when it was 115+. The car was doing fine but I was dying in the car. It felt like there was an oven door open and blowing hot air into my helmet making it unbearable in there. After about 3-4 laps I was thinking....when will this session end.

Kind of have to disagree. I have NT05s which are about dead...they are pretty useless on the track. These tires are what I would consider heat cycled out. All they do is get me to the track.

I was thinking about that, but that would mean taking out the passenger seat. I think I'll just skip the summers. Besides, I can't get beat my personal best times when it's 100+ outside as the RS loves nice cool/cold area. Those first two sessions at BRP in the winter are money after the tires get warmed up.
