Dude, thank you for the video. I'm a new boot with the M3 and this seriously answered all my upcoming ?'s about which exhaust to get.... I got my M3 three days ago and yesterday I was able to find a local shop with a K&n airfilter. I dropped the K&N in and am using the stock box and now looking for exhaust, and then finally a tune. My old car was a Charger SRT8 and I put a full magnaflow exhaust on it. Honestly, I'm tired of the loud roar all day long. I want my M3 exhaust to have a nice tone to it while crusing but when you hammer it, I want the sound to come alive... After watching your video, I think I was able to narrow it to the Dinan or the Eisnmann Sport.... Thanks again, for doing the video cause you helped me out a lot and you saved me time youtubeing all the different exhaust sounds.....

You're welcome. Since the video, I sold the AA exhaust and got the Dinan. I also wanted an exhaust that wasn't so loud but would come alive when you floor it. The Dinan fits my needs. When it is new, the Dinan was a bit soft. But after several hundred miles, the packing material inside burned away and now the volume is back up (but definitely still not as loud as an AA exhaust).

It's 'resonance' or drone reduction INSIDE the cabin; it has nothing to do how it sounds outside. And Dinan and AA are the only other 2 systems I know that also have resonance reduction. Oh, and the BMW performance system, of course.
I like how Dinan sounds the best, but I just couldn't live with how cheaply made it looks, without proper tips (it's just painted tubing), and to a lesser degree, with a fake tip. Corsa also has a single outlet, but they chose the better option of a 'Y' end, rather than a fake one. Corsa looks better made, much better quality, and tips are nice, but hangs down horribly. Even painted black it'd still look weird IMO. But out of those 2, I'd opt for Corsa all day long. And it's significantly cheaper too. I've been trying to get my stock exhaust modified, but nobody wanted to do it locally. So might be 'forced' to put a Corsa . Still thinking about it. It sounds almost as good as Dinan (some folks like it better), so both are a wash. And neither drones noticeably. Decisions, decisions. |

I am familiar with Cabin Drone. And it is good that most folks seem to agree that Dinan, Corsa, BMW Performance and perhaps the Remus Sport is virtually drone-free. But, what about how these things sound outside the car at idle and low-speed cruising - compared to the AA? Do they still sound like I have two massive subwoofers inside my car cranked up to the max playing static? I can hear the boom my AA makes from a block away when its just sitting there or just cruising slow. It screams aftermarket in a cheap sort of a way.

Does anyone have video or experience with cabin sound and/ or drone with the Meisterschaft? I am very interested in this system as I feel that it gives a throaty sound that I am looking for; that being said, I do not want it to be overbearing for longer commutes.
Thank you in advance. |

GINTANI!!!!!!
I currently have a Gintani Catless X-Pipe with the Gintani Hybrid Rear and a Gintani Tune and I couldn't be happier. I was beating my head against a wall trying to decide betwen all the different sounds and finally decided to go with an exhaust that makes the M3 sound like it's supposed to...... a V8! The exhaust is a mix between Gintani's Race and Sport exhausts. Its loud when you step on it and relatively quiet when your not. It sounds amazing in M mode which just amplifies your down shift. I have had several people ask me to roll down my window to ask me whats under the hood and that the car sounds like a NASCAR. The look of the exhaust is extremely aggressive and makes the stock exhaust looks as if it hasn't go through puberty yet! I can't say enough about the deep gorgeous sound that Gintani is able to produce! I am sure that the catelss x-pipe has a lot to do with it but the rear section is amazing. Some people complain about the "race look" exhaust because it is single walled. IMO it makes the whole rear end stand out and scream " I GO FAST". Anyway, I am finishing up the rest of my mods this weekend and will post some videos and pics in case anyone is considering Gintani. Great turn around time on the exhaust, great price, awesome customer service, and just overall a great experience with my first mod.

What exhaust you choose will depend on the driver! Some drivers will want a loud, mean sounding rear section and some will want something that has no drone and who pull up at a business meeting without looking and sounding like a child.
I used to have a Dixis rear with non resonated mid-pipes and catless headers on my e46 m3. I really liked it in the beginning but after a while it was just too loud. It attracted too much attention and I was pulled over too many times for how loud it was. If you decide to change the mid section of the exhaust with either using high flow cats or both cats deleted, it will also change the tone of the exhaust and will become much louder. My favorite exhaust is the Active rear! The reason is because you can change out the mid section of the exhaust (deleting either one single or both cats) and it still sounds great without being too loud. The Active exhaust also has no drone even with no cats unlike a lot of other manufacturer's on the market. I will say that the Active rear is definitely one of the quieter exhausts out there but if you have plans to swap out the mid section then you will have, what I believe to be the nicest sounding exhaust system on the market! |

Great tread. I think I spent the whole evening on this and few other treads dealing with exhaust. I haven't heard much about Akrapovic. I personally think it just sounds fantastic. It makes the super car sound.
