How's your oil pressure with the 5w40 vs 10w60?

I don't have anything reading oil pressure, does run much smoother at start ups though. Gets to temp faster which is nice, does not get any hotter but drops temp much faster as soon as I drop from say 6k to 3k rpm.
If oil report comes back good its what im going to stick with, car just runs better with it.

This is my second oil analysis. Although it didn't seem like I was having any issues with 10w-60, I wanted to see if 0w-40 would suffice as my normal fill. It's interesting to see that lead actually went up. I'm going to go another round on 0w-40 and see what happens. I might go back to 10w-60 if lead continues to go up.
What is also interesting is that I wasn't "babying" it as much when I had 10w-60. By that I mean, when the engine was cold I was actually shifting up towards 4000-4500 at times and my commute was only ~5 miles each way. Now with the 0w-40 I was shifting at ~3000 on a cold engine and taking the long way to work making my commute ~10 miles each way. Thoughts? I want to note that my mileage intervals are low because I don't drive this car much (2009 M3). What are you basically seeing are annual oil changes, regardless of miles accrued per year. ![]()

I think your report is fine, it's surprising your car puts out so little lead compare to the many reports I've seen.
Hey, if a 900HP McLaren P1 comes from the factory with M1 0W40, maybe we can trust the oil too. |

That oil report has too few miles on the oil to make any determination.

Hey guys, do we have a definitive timeframe of the build date when the bearings went from lead to aluminum? the 2011 cars span from build dates of mid 2010 all the way to the end of 2011 AFAIK.
Thanks

Nice report, what's up with the viscosity on the older reports? 0w40? If so did you notice any difference in the car going back to 10w60?

You need to get TBN + TAN.

If you have the new 702/703 bearings (I assume those are what you just put in your car), nickel usually indicate rod bearing coating wear on the non-lead bearings, I'd keep an eye on that trend.
I switched to M1 0W40 when my car had 2700mi, did an UOA after 5500mi of usage, no nickel wear. |

Unless you've used the same oil for multiple changes, there will always be some of the old stuff left behind. That means when you switch from TWS to M1, you've probably still got 1/2 quart of the TWS mixed in, which will thicken up the M1. On the next change to M1, it will be largely gone.
